View Full Version : Pro 80s vs Rev 8s

If I can get pro 80s for almost $500 cheaper than rev 8s, will I end up regretting the decision?
Another way to ask, are the rev 8s $500 better than pro 80s?

I haven't heard the Rev 8s but we love our Pro 80s. From what I've read the rev series has a richer sound to them.

You are comparing an 8-inch to 8-inch so the experience at wake range with wind and exhaust noise in your face will essentially be the same. If that is your primary objective then save the money.
If you want a more musical experience near field, perhaps while at rest, then the REV8 has a much smoother signature with no trace of an erratic response. In fact, the REV8 produces little to no clue that it is a horn speaker. If this is just as important and you have a critical ear then the REV8 is worth the difference.

Hey David, can I ask a somewhat related advice question? I'm interested in increasing SQ nearfield over a single pair of Pro 80's (Syn 6 1-4 bridged for 200 each), what are you thoughts about the decision between replacing the 80's with Rev8's versus Rev10's? I am currently using a Syn4 for my inboats 125W x 4 (Polk MM6501's) and have been advised (by Tim) in lieu of adding a 3rd amp to move the inboats to 1-4 on the Syn6 (which is going to drop me down to 65W per polk) and dedicate the Syn4 for a pair of Rev 10's. I'm just wondering what you think? Swapping 80's for Rev8's I could probably leave the wiring alone, but am fearful of buyer remorse. Haven't heard the Rev series yet, but have followed the reviews carefully. Not super excited about cutting my inboat RMS in half, but you just don't hear much about Pro80 to Rev8 as all the talk is about the Rev10. Can you share your thoughts?

Well I went by and talked to the dealership. They did me right. Gave me an additional 10% off and I couldn't pass it up. Last pair or I would have bought two.
Given that there was that much difference in price, I havent heard the rev 8s and that a boat on a lake is not that great of an acoustical environment, the pro 80s should knock my socks off.
