View Full Version : Ford vs. Chevy inboard engine debate

I have been looking for a ProStar 205 '92-'95 for several months now. Are there any big issues with the Ford vs. the Chevy engines? Seems like a rarity that I run across a 205 with the 351. Thank you all for your help.

92-93 will have a 351 or the optional LT1 Corvette, 94-95 the Chevy TBI 350 was standerd with the option of the LT1.

93 is the only year where you might see a Chevy or a Ford. There is really no debate concerning the engines themselves. Both the Fords and Chevys are solid engines and will serve you well. The only issue on some of the carbed Fords is the Holley 4010 Carb that was fitted to the high output (HO) Fords in 92 and 93. They tend to be heat sensitive and idle poorly. But for a few hundred bucks, you can fit them with a Holley 4160 and it will run like a top.

Trying to stoke the fire between the brand loyalists, huh? And I am one. :)

The honest to goodness real truth is what East Tx Skier said. No real debate as both engines are solid performers. Sorry for not throwing gas on the fire.

I had a 350 (900 hrs) in my Supreme, then a 351 (750 hrs) in my 190 and now an LT1 (170 hrs) in my 205

I can honestly say that all 3 motors worked flawlessly for me

85 s&s 351 no problems and 1950+ hrs.
Both are great. Anyone who feels strongly will feel that way because they're territorial about their boat.
