Question: Does the hour meter run while the key is in the "on" position but the engine is not running? I could of sworn I clocked 0.2 hours just sitting in the boat listening to the stereo / loading all my new gear.

No, Ive listened to hours of music with the engine off on my 2012 x-15 and it doesn't move.

The hour meter on my 89 runs whenever the key is on. Don't know how it could be wired to get voltage only when the engine is running, but I'm sure it's possible.

Only runs if engine is above 300 rpm i believe.

If the key is in the on position you will log hours on your dash meter, but not actually on the engine. if the key is turned back to the accessory setting no hours are logged.

I don't think this is correct. I leave ours in on position and hour meter doesn't rise.

Hr Meter should be on same line as oil pressure sending unit - so it only gets live power when oil pressure is present.

Nop, listening to music a few weeks a go, when trying the radio in a 2012 x2 and no raise in hours on the meter. :)

I guess it's different for different years. My 1990 tristar hour meter runs anytime the key is in the on possition (one click clockwise), but does not run if it is in accessory position (one click counter-clockwise). Learned that the hardway, clocked 2.3 hours listening to the radio in the garage while cleaning. Ooops

I have a couple hundred hours difference between the dash hour meter and actual engine hours.

I wanted proof of this for "resale" purposes. Thought I might of screwed myself. And my mechanic was able to plug the computer into my Ilmar and see actual engine hours!!! Thank God!!!

Don't leave your boat in the ON position then store it in the garage !!!!!
