Considering replacement of the original "X2" graphics on my '03 X2...

Despite hating those graphics when these boats were new the look has grown on me (somewhat) but the starboard decal has some scratches courtesy of the prior owner so they've got to go. No replacements available so it's a good time for an update on the boat's look.

The decals I'm considering are these in white:

http://www.waterskis.com/MasterCraft-Domed-Decal-p/mastercraft_boats_domed_decal.htm

Examples I've seen of others using these look great, although they've all been on different color boats than mine.

Options I'm considering:

A/ White/silver outline domed decals after removal of "X2" graphics and small chrome Mastercraft at rear corners

B/ Same as above, but Navy/silver outline domed decal. Does anyone know if the navy decal is a match for my navy (Monterey blue, I think) hull?

C/ Remove the large "X2" graphics only, leave the small chrome Mastercraft at the rear of the hull and call it a day...

If I go with option A or B, I would love to find some sort of X2/X series model designator to put on the rear of the hull. Any thoughts?

For reference, my boat:

I'm a big fan of option C myself. Here's my boat as example:

Looks great! The nice part about option "C" is I get to try it out regardless of my final decision.

How apparent was the original decal location after removal?

Not really at all. After I removed it, I also had it buffed and waxed. No evidence of any stickers after that.

The graphics on my 2003 are starting to peel of just under the waterline at the step in the hull. I have pretty much decided I am going the the 64" domed decals and removing the smaller chrome decals towards the rear of the hull. The pics in this thread are what convinced me: http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=35364

I plan on reparing all the scratches in my gelcoat when I pull the sticker and buffing the whole boat. It's going to be a winter project for me, but I can't decide if I want to go with black or red decals. I'd also like to find the small chromex x-series badges. You can see them in the waterskis.com link under the "M" in mastercraft. I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere though.

I'd also love to have the chromex X-series designators...post up if you find any!

As of today I'm at option "c" more than likely on my way to option "a"...

After much worry about gel color differential under the X2 decals I finally said what the heck and pulled them off. Blow dryer is definitely your friend in this process.

After removal, I was pleasantly surprised to find the gelcoat under the graphics didn't appear darker, as I feared. Instead, it simply appeared unpolished. I hit the hull with compound followed up by Meguiar's cleaner wax and ended up with this:

The hull looks great and there's zero "shadowing" left by the old decals. I'll probably order up a set of the domed Mastercraft decals in white w/ the chrome outline and install after pulling the small logo off the rear corners.

That is awesome there is no shadowing under your old decal. Post up some pictures of the boat with the domed decals.

Can't wait to see it I love those boats with the simple "MasterCraft" or even naked like it is now.

Leaving it in the current stealthy logo configuration is definitely not out of the question. I'll get it back on the water in the next few days and take a look at it off the trailer and make up my mind at that point.

If I do put the large white dripmolded Mastercraft logo down the side, what do you all think about the raised chrome Prostar 205V designator on the back corner? I'd rather find an appropriate "X2" designator, but am coming up empty. Given that the X2 is just an options package added on to a 205V, would that be "wrong"? :o

Here's an example of the graphic I'm referring to:

If your not happy with what you've done so far there are a couple options at ZDecals that you might be interested in. Here are some mock ups that they did for me for my X2 & they're working on a couple more.

Think I'll stick w/ factory offerings for the large hull "MC", but maybe I'll check those guys out for a X2 designator for the rear.

Thanks for sharing those!

I pulled the decals off one side of my 2003 x2 last weekend.

Wow--that looks great. No graphics and the red accent at the waterline just works! Any fade issues?

I've purchased some MC logos for mine, but have yet to put them on.

I have pretty much decided I am going the the 64" domed decals and removing the smaller chrome decals towards the rear of the hull.

I'm close to finalizing a deal on an 05 X2 and am considering what to do about the oval decals. I was also wondering about the stern side chrome decals. How would I get them off? Just heat gently with a blow dryer and begin by lifting a corner of each letter with a plastic putty knife?

No fading issues. Only took me about 30 minutes with a heat gun. The chrome ones towards the back would probably come off pretty easily with some heat. I wouldn't use a putty knife

I saw this thread linked in another post and figured I would update it. I had custom black and red mastercraft decals made for the sides and the back

Mine was debadged when I purchased the boat and was HEAVILY oxidized. The black looked like a chalkboard. There's ghosting of the old decals if you are looking for it. I think I'm going to put a clean 50" mastercraft domed decal across both sides and the original decals on the transom. The pic in the driveway is after wet sanding, compounding, buffing, waxing!

Love that boat. New decals look great!

Mine is still in stealth mode after pulling the X2 graphics 3 years ago. Might still do something similar to yours one of these days. I would still love to find an appropriate X2 designator of the rear corner if I ever go that route.

I bought this boat mid summer. The graphics are currently stock. I'm thinking of going with the domed prostar 205v from the 2001 model, pictured above, and losing the large decals in the white area of the hull. The oval decals are somewhat faded, and chipped on the port side. The transom decal is faded and the transom needs a good buffing. I want to replace the ovals because they don't really match the lines of the boat, and the chip. Let me know your thoughts on what looks good with the drop line in the gel at the rear.

Your boat would look great with the domed MC spice, as you mentioned, and it might look sharp with no decals.
