So I was cruising on the boat chatting with a long time friend and he asked me how I can be so relaxed on the boat on Memorial Day weekend. My answer was this...I maintain my own boat, my eyes glance at the guages every few minutes, I watch for debris...but most importantly, every morning I use the boat I give the engine a once over. I check the tranny cooler screen which self flushes when the cooling system is full of water. He asked why...because if my impellar starts to fail I will know immediately! I see a small piece of rubber and I know I have to change the impellar. It's peace of mind and that goes a long way. I start my engine with the engine cover open. I ensure water is flowing through the hose, by giving it a slight squeeze, from the impellar housing. I then check for any leaks then stop the engine, check the oil. At this point and only at this point is the boat ready for the day. Now go wake my wife and ski!!!
