I just picked up an 06 X30 and need to sell my 92 ProStar 205. I doubt you will find a boat of that era in better condition than mine. Fiberglass is nearly perfect, trailer is in awesome shape, interior is all original with the exception of the rear seat bottom which I had re-covered two years ago. Color is mostly white with royal blue sides and gray interior. Blue snap-on covers and tower mounted bimini. Also has the gray, factory storage cover. It has a rock solid custom tower. No bling to speak of: no tower speakers, upgraded stereo with one subwoofer, amp and an i-pod connection. It does have a shower and upgraded 4-blade OJ prop (and original 3-blade as a spare). Engine is 351, 285hp - all original and runs great. I have always done my own maintenance and always garage kept. I am the second owner - I bought it in 96 with 30 hrs on it and it now has 680hrs. I'm asking $10k - firm. We have always loved and babied this boat but we have finally outgrown it and just don't slalom much anymore. Let me know if you are interested in photos or more info.
John.

TTU, funny stuff. One lady tried scamming me on this exact boat. Found the actual owner finally off eBay. Contacted to buy, he sold it locally before the eBay sale finished.

Thanks, try again (:

Troy, that search includes 3 different variations of the Pro Star 190 hull. Any reason for that year range?

troy_21
05-24-2012, 11:41 AM
Just the years I was informed to look for by other boat owners.. I would like direct inject, so that's why 1994 is the oldest & I just assumed 1998 would be all I could afford

I would not be so picky about EFI. The 91-94 hull is by far WAY BETTER than the 95-98 190's.

I bought a carbed boat only for a good skiing hull and did not care about EFI. Yeah its nice but it will sure not make you a better skier. The wake is what I bought.

Its a '94 and it looks like it has the closed cooling system on it. The pictures look pretty good. Bid is no reserve and at $7,500 right now.

I wouldn't be afraid of the hours. If the engine is maintained right it'll last 1,000 more... besides at that price you could replace the engine with a new one or have that one rebuilt to the hilt.

If you look in the FAQ, there is a thread about the various years of the Pro Star 190 that will give you ideas about the hull differences over those 3 generations, i.e. 91--94, 95--97, and 98--2000. There was also Fuel injection offered as an option in 1993. The standard fuel injection from 94 on was throttle body injection with multiport injection, i.e. LT-1, as an option.

Bahumbug. It is sold.. A guy contacted me about a 92' with 780 hours. It's flawless with a tower, speakers.. No perfect pass & he wants 12,900... Plus I would have to pay 1,000 for shipping. How far off is he on his pricing (if any)

Depending on condition, that's not terrible. A little high perhaps and I have certainly seen them go for lower. But for a good one, that price isn't terribly far off.

Pics of this boat would be nice.

Sometimes towers can make a prostar look like a swing set was bolted on.

Does the tower look like a swing set. If so price is too high.

Well your boat is a mighty fine rig. I REALLY like the ND mini tower on it.

Didn't know your boat was the one being referred to. Some boats just need a ND tower or no tower at all. Some aftermarket towers can make it look like a swing set is bolted on and look out of place on any boat, wake or ski.

Taymc190 who had that boat before dog has OCD and he nit picked everything on that boat. I'm sure dog is as anal as Taylor is as far as having the MC OCD disorder.

I'm also pretty darn sure you will have an extremely hard time finding a cleaner boat with all of the options. If you found a 91-94 that is clean for 10-11k, I can assure you that you would spend 5k or more to add the ND tower $3000, Bimini top $700, stereo, speakers, etc. There is no way I would sell mine for less than 12,500. That rig is nice and well taken care of.

Troy its your money but do keep this in mind. The 91-94 boats are like 20 years old first off, they by far are better skiing hulls than the 95-2000 hulls.

This being said hours are going to be hard to nit pick. Think about this. Oil changes are recommended every 50 hours. Most owners put on 50 hours a year on their boat. This would average 1000 hours for a 20 year old boat. 700-800 hours is nothing to worry about.

Consider this. If the average oil change in a car is 3000 miles then consider this. Would you consider a car or truck to be worn out at 48,000 miles. There is no reason that these boats could not go for 1500-2000 hours.

I have also just had the spots repaired on the back right corner, and the dash. NOW it IS perfect. Cost me $1700! When I get it back today, I'm gonna clean the carpet. Got a few tricks I'm gonna do to the engine too, as far as appearance goes. I really hate to sell it right now, cause I'd have to go on another hunt, BUT, it can be bought.;)

I think Troy should go ski a '91-'94 and then go ski a '95-'98. Maybe then he will understand that the 95-98 are not as good. The only thing good about them is their engine and transmission.

They have the wacky rudder with the crazy wing on it that was a desperate way of fixing the wake that didn't work.

The newer ones also drive like a school bus while the 91-94 drive like a finely tuned sports car.

The wake is hard and tall on the 95-98 too.

And yes, you do have an immaculate boat dog.. Just trying to find the best deal possible & who better to ask than you fella Dog's boat is a top notch 92 model. It's a best deal for everything it offers as a turn-key machine. Plug-and-play for everything. It will be one of several boats at the four day shindig in June in North GA. Join us there for a test drive. Bring your truck, you'll take it home.

I think youre confusing the 95-97 with the 98-01. It was the 98+ hull that had all the fixes for the wake and handling. (Winged/slotted rudder, extra tracking fin, "blocks" glued into the chines, etc).

Im not a tremendous slalom skier, but always found the 95-97 wake to be excellent. Barely a tick worse than the 91-94 wake, and had much improved spray. Ive only barefooted behind the 98-00 hull, so I wont comment there. I would say that the 91-94 hull handles better than the others though.
