View Full Version : Throttle lever wonky

So I started up our 1989 Tristar 190 in the driveway for the first time to de-winterize it. It would barely run unless I gave it full throttle. Even then it was about 1500 rpm. After a few minutes it smoothed out and would idle in neutral.

I then noticed that full throttle forward was only about 1500 rpm. But reverse was way more responsive. In reverse I had lots of throttle left and it was revved up as much as I felt comfortable with with no load on it. (I did not have it in gear and have not tried it in the water.) So it appears that reverse is normal, but forward is not.

What could be causing this problem with the forward throttle?

That is a normal condition, when the lockout button is pulled and you try to move the lever forward it stops at the button and only giving you about 1/3 movement, but going reverse you have full motion no button to stop the lever, mine does the same thing, i just operate the throttle in reverse when the button is pulled...
