View Full Version : 2012 X7 with 6.0L grinding noise?

Picked up our new 2012 (demo) and love it! The only thing that I am a bit disappointed with is a grinding noise in forward and reverse at low rpm. The dealer said this is normal because ilmor is not using oil in the shafts any more? Has anyone else had this same issue/complaint becuase it is going to take some getting use to if this is the new norm....previous 1999 prostar was nice and smooth on the transmission...this new one makes me cringe every time i put it in gear. Any advice or fixes?

What transmission is it? The Powerslot makes a noise like rocks being gurgled or something like that. Both my 5.7 and last years 6.0 made that noise and its all becuase of Powerslot.

I am not sure about the transmission type it is...I do know it has the ilmor 6.0L engine. If mine does have it why does the powerslot make that noise and what is exactly is the noise that sounds like rocks grinding?

Can't answer what it is but its been around for a long time. One of the guys I ski with is a past promo boat owner too and the first time we took last years boat out I was freaked out. He said its the Powerslot, always sounded like that.

Mmmm I would enjoy it ten fold if it did not make that awful sound...just saying
Do the models without the powerslot make the same noise or are they what I call normal sounding?

Sweet ride...if its normal...<<weird sound for this tranny being around so long>> ... turn up the sound system....and hit it... :D

With the boat running in water, lift the engine cover and put it in gear. Go listen and see if you can isolate where the sound is coming from. Be sure to check the fluid level in the trans.

Looks like other people have exact the same problem. Including me. Look at this thread:
Any solutions? Or is it normal?

I don't know. All the Ilmor threads when they were changing over from Indmar had these guys on par with god for producing perferct engines. :D

The 6 Liters make that sound

My new X25 has the Ilmor 6.0 and so far does not make that sound. 45hrs and counting. So is this only a direct drive issue? good luck
