I own a 88 Prostar 200 that had a 1989 Mercury Blackmax 200 on it. It died and I am currently looking for a new motor. I found a 2003 Yamaha 150 and I am wondering if it will do the job or if it is too small of an engine for my boat. My wife is going to have a baby in six months and I am not sure if I can afford a dependable 200.

I am a barefooter and would like to do about 45 mph sometimes; would this be possible? Has anyone ever seen a 150 on a Prostar 200?

Would the 150 be overworked? Any suggestions or personal experiences would be helpful.

Thanks

I would definetly try to get a 200 on there. A 150 may be over worked on that boat, especially if pulling multiple deeps.

Never seen a 150 on a BF 200.

What happened to the original motor? If you check around, you should be able to find a good(or rebuilt) one of the same model. Since parts are available for yours, you could have it rebuilt for far less than a new one. Do a search online and you shouldn't have any trouble finding someone reputable near you.
