I got a rather large crack in on of my tower welds. Does anyone have any experience in repairing these? Will any good aluminum welder be able to take care of this?
Here is a pic of the weld location is just above the wake board racks.
Thanks.

A good welder should be able to take care of that without any problems. Make sure they lay heavy drop cloths everywhere if you're gonna get it done while still attached to the boat.

Thanks I will try to find a good welder here is Salt Lake. I will see if I can remove the part of the tower that needs repair.
Would letting a 10 year old around 90 lbs swing from the tower/do pull ups cause this?

Took the tower in and got it fixed, thanks for the info. My son is happy that he can keep swinging from the tower.

kodiak,

I had/have a crack in my '03 tower which I think was caused by the aftermarket 2-slot surfboard rack I added. At this point it has been JB welded and is holding but who knows how long that'll last.

Can you tell me who fixed yours and how much it cost?

Also, PM sent.

Thanks

Grind out the crack, re-TIG or MIG and call it a day. An easy fix for a wire-feeder..... A welder can do an even better job....

Migs use spool guns for aluminum.

JB weld is not what you want on a tower. You're talking about a lot of force on them and if they fail you're going to have a very bad day and likely injury someone.

Can you get a close up photo of the crack? You can't just weld over a crack, it will continue to crack past the weld.

TIG welding aluminum is an art and should be done by someone with a few years under their belt.

You have a very dangerous condition going on right now.

Cost around 70 bucks. Nick from Taurus. Utah water sports told me to use these guys.
