I just received my IS Blue Lake quad and wondered if anyone could tell a novice why someone would want to use all 4 fins vs just 2 fins?

4 fins would really lock in the board for beginners, yet still provide enough speed to keep you in the pocket. 2 fins will loosen it up a bit and allow for easier turns and slashes, but may have to pump the board more to stay in the pocket. Great all around board for any size and shape of novice riders.

We are having trouble simply surfing without the rope pull. Would the 4 fins help us be pushed by the wake more than 2. I feel like the wake is dialed in with 1200 lbs port side and I know there are a lot of variables.

The Blue Lake is an excellent board to learn to surf wireless. More than likely this is a matter of learning the proper technique of keeping in the pocket (no offense). I must admit we surfed many hours before any of us could surf without the rope. Try keeping the rail of the board right in the face of the wake at the steepest point. Surf this way with the board pointing right at the back of the boat. Use small fore/aft weight shifts to keep slack in the rope. When you can surf for more than a minute with slack in the rope then gently drop (don't toss) the rope over on the back side of the wake. Have someone pull the rope into the boat. You may be able to stay in the pocket for only a short distance, but each time you will get more and more comfortable with the dynamics of the wake. Hope this technique helps. Keep us updated on your progress.

It took us about 4 days of hard surfing to get to the point of surfing without a rope. Just takes some time as noted above.......

With an x2 how fast are you going? Use your w plate? We think we have a good wave and if I can post the vid I will.
