I have done this maneuver with a little smaller specimen and you have to commit. This guy was a little timid. When I did it, it was at an alligator farm and not necessary, just a "bucket list" type thing. Really not on a list, just a risk taker personality I guess. One thing fore sure, it will get your heart a pumping when you get close. This animal would be a little big for my comfort. I'm guessing the one I jumped was 150-200 lbs smaller. The "coach" or "wrangler" who ran the place I went to was no rocket scientist and missing a few teeth. He still had all arms, legs and fingers..so I went for it, but it is totally a 1 time thing.

I live in Florida and have alligators in all of our lakes... I will admit, h2oskifreak, I do not think I would do that! LOL

Survival of the fittest was tested again...........I think it was a tie.

I do feel for the unfortunate gentleman. I would think a gator bite causes instant infection. Hopefully he finds an alternative vocation when he heals up.

That guy is a moron! Why in the world would you ever try to grab that big of a gator with your bare hands with no apparent plan of what to do after you have hold of it. Not to mention it's not a baby, you don't just grab it around the belly. In case he didn't figure it out yet, the big sharp things on the one end can move very quickly, and they open and close.

"Hey, you're a biologist, right Bob?"

"Why yes, I am. I have a PhD in biology from (insert school of your choice here). I did my thesis on Danish cedar crickets."

"Yeah, that's great. Can you help us with a really big gator that's in a ditch up the road?"

"Um, sure. What could go wrong? I've seen the toothless guys on TV do this all the time."

Seriously, I hate to Monday-morning quarterback this one, but this guy didn't look real confident going in. Was it his first time? Is that really the best way to learn how to rope one?

The proper technique is to just “Poke’m with a stick”.
The guy was on the news this morning joking about the whole thing. He is lucky the gator just wanted to be left alone.

George Costanza did much on Seinfeld when he impersonated a marine biologist and actually found Kramer's golf ball stuck in a whale's blow-hole.

Watching too much TV. Hell with the crock guy went after the 10 foots he had a bunch of friends and the first thing he did was rope the lower jaw just so the crock couldn't whip around on him like it did on this dude. :D

If it would have been me we'd have boots, belts, handbags and lunch before the day was over!!

So close to being a Darwin award. Makes you think - would we really be any worse off if the gator just finished that guy....

hmm...lets do the math.

gator @ 10 feet and 300lbs vs biologist guy/croc dundee @ 5.5 ft 175lbs ?

does not equate.
