93 Prostar 190, 285 HO, 1:1 trans, 4 blade OJ Legend 13x13( prop never been damaged). Great pull, great wake!!
Put on new Acme CNC 13x12 #541. Outstanding hole shot, on plane quicker, holds slalom speed better, very very smooth!!!! Made the wake much flatter and it was great before.
Can't believe how much better the boat performed. Heard all the hype before and now I'm a believer!!!!

Please forgive my ignorance but is the 541 a 3 or 4 blade? I'm new.

Haven't skied it yet, but totally agree with the above review on the 541! Naht, did you notice the noise when you installed yours too?

Pretty much my thoughts on the 541, too. Glad to know I wasn't crazy.

good to know, i have had some complaints that the pull on my 93 is hard and a 3blade would soften it. dont think i will be spending the dough until i sell one.

ok, here's where I'm at on this prop thing...
91 ProStar 190 240HP 351 Indmar with 1:1 velvet drive transmission.

just found out I've got an 3 blade OJ 14x18 prop. don't know if it's Legend

my hole shot is good, I'm new so don't know any different.
my topend is 37-38 mph at approx. 3600 RPM.... I ain't got no GPS gadget.

Doug's prop shoot-out test was the 13x12 Acme & OJ props.

what will raise my topend? going from 14 to 13???
and what will gain better hole shot???

the kids are still learning to ski, so I'm not really going over 25 mph and I really don't need a better hole shot....

but I do need a spare prop!!!

Has the transmission been changed in your boat? RPM's are way low, should be 4200-4400 Max for that engine vs your 3600. Also, the 14x18 prop is normally associated with a "Powerslot" transmission with the 1.5:1 ratio and a 1-1/8 prop shaft.

I recently installed the ACME 543, and I LOVE it!!! The hole shot is killer! :D The first time out, the ski rope got snatched out of my hands twice before I got used to it and put the death grip on the handle. I think I'll pick up some gloves, and/or get a better handle, but I'm not giving up my prop! :D

Oh yeah, and 3600 RPM seems low.....I'm turning about 4500-4600 at WOT.

Sounds like the wrong prop on the 1:1 transmission. Maybe thatís why the rpms are so low???

OR you do have the powerslot???

the transmission has not been changed to my knowledge...
I was reading the ID Plate on the transmission "Velvet 1:1"

I will double check on Saturday, but I was looking at it at WOT and thinking hmmm 37 mph= 3700RPM

All indication shows me it's not a powerslot... Again I will confirm on Saturday

back to one of the original questions
what's that prop (Acme 541 13x12) going to do for me? holeshot & topend

smaller = better & faster?

naht,
thank you for letting me intrude on your thread.... it's not too bad of a threadjack:steering:

Milkmania,
You have the wrong prop on your boat, a 14x18 is for powerslot as mentioned earlier. you need a prop around 13x13. That acme 13x12 would be great for you. You will acheive both higher top end speed and a better hole shot with that prop.

Does have a growling sound to it, mostly when letting off throttle at speed. Probably the bigger blades causing this. It is like putting on the brakes when you backout of it. I thought my 4 blade Legend was great, but it doesn't even come close!! If my wake gets any better there won't be any!!!
If you have a 1:1 trans in a 190 PS and are using a 14x18 you have the wrong prop!!
Would still like to try the new Ambush CNC 4 blade.

Nah, I know it's all in fun! And really, my arms aren't THAT hairy...it must have been the lighting, or the camera resolution or something. I've never even noticed it, until someone said something on here.
