Changing to synthetic, if recommended 15w-40 in the owners manual for conventional oil on a 2003 RTP Predator, can someone tell me do you definately go back with that (I am located in TN, hot and humid), or do you change viscosity?

Why are you changing to synthetic?

Don't have to, boat only has 200 hours and is immaculate, just prefer it to be the last one I own. Just preference if it tends to help engine life.

Okay. But, as I have read on here many times before, don't extend your oil change interval, even when using synth.

you know if you stay with same viscosity?

No, sorry. Would make sense that you would, but I can't say for sure. My boat is fourteen years old with 263 hours on it and is, like yours, in immaculate shape and one I want to keep for life. It gets conventional oil.

I switched to Ams-oil 15-40 marine/diseal synthetic last year. Plan to stick with it for the rest of the time I own my 99'.

Synth vs. Dino oil .... classic question ..... like many on here,
- use whatever you prefer
- make sure you get an oil that meets the API, viscosity requirements of the engine / year combo
- do not extend your change intervals simply because you run synthetic

I tend to be a fan of Mobil1 in most of my vehicles and boat.

Synth will be fine in your RTP if you meet the API requirements from Indmar for the RTP engine ...

I've been running Mobil 1 15w-50 for the past 4 years in my LTR. One of the main reasons is my nearest Wally Wolrd sells it in 5 qt. jugs really cheap. If they sold Ams-oil 15w-40 I'd probably switch to that.

I talked to a machine shop operator today about synthetic oil for my LT1- He told me to absolutely not use it. He claims that the engines use a low tension thin oil ring, and synthetic oil gets past it easier, so the engine will use oil. He rebuilds 6-8 engines per year for the local MC dealer- has two in the shop now. On his rebuilds, he installs older style pistons with a longer skirt, and wider rings. The dealer says the boats pick up 2-3 mph.

I have no opinion on this, so don't shoot the messenger. I'm just relaying what he said. I'm going to change oil in my MC this weekend, and haven't decided what oil to use.

Pretty hard to beat Rotella 15w-40.

I run Mobil-1 in every other vehicle I own.

I have owned MCs for 10 yrs and polled 3 dealerships down here and 8 different mechanics and 100% response is 25-40 and I get the "well down south you don't want 15 40" so that is why I run 25 40 and have had no issues. Any thoughts from you? Prolly doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I've been running Mobil 1 15w-50 for the past 4 years in my LTR.I like the sound of that, a huge fan of 20/50 Castrol for 35 yrs from build turbo drag machines. It has a higher rating for engines with integral gear boxes as motorcycles.
It's in everything from tractors / lawnmowers, etc.

Don't LT1s come with synthetic in them?
