A buddy is looking at one of these. Does anyone have any experience with this engine in a star? Will it be a dog or is it okay?

I have a 2010 star with the MCX, and it has plenty of power. It's all about prop selection if he's going to run a ton of extra ballast. Can't go wrong with a star. Plenty of space, tons of storage, huge sun deck, and obviously a killer wake boarding machine.

Good luck!

Engine pushes the Star decent. If you are at high altitudes I may opt for the bigger one. However if not, prop it down and it will run fine.

LY6 drinks gas, big block has reliability issues (or so the rumor goes). I have the MCX in mine and it's been fine so far.

The real engine to have in the star in the 6.2 LS3 variants though...

I have the MCX as well and have never had an issue with not enough power. It's never had a problem getting up on plain like my old MB Sport 220v did.

Prop down and does fine unless you swamp the boat. We run around 2500 with no issues and good gph.

We surf all the time. But it is a short steep pocket.

We have a 2008 x-star for sale if u r interested.

It won't surf starboard for goofy guys well at all. It really doesn't surf regular foot much better...its a sub par surf boat for sure

I don't have any problems surfing behind mine. I don't have anything else to compare it to though.

I ride a 09 x star with mcx and fly high ballast. If we had more than three people and ballast full it worked to get on plain but after changing out the prop now it gets out of the hole easier.

I have never had a problem surfing the x star and we ride both sides. I know there are much better hulls out there to surf but there is no reason you cant get a good wake out of the x star

Nice choice since you're asking about the surf wake. He has one of the best now! :D

You might know it if you are a MMS customer. It was that used orange 25 that was in stock with 100 hours on it.

Just joined the forum. The orange X25 is the boat I just purchased. Going to be a bit of a learning curve coming off a inboard/outboard SeaRay.
