does anyone know when you are changing transmission oil, , I assume you pump it out of the dip stick hole or there was a cap that said loosen or tighten and had arrows pointing in oposite directions

I pumped mine out of the filter housing your are talking about. You need to loosen the allen bolt in the middle first then it will twist out. Loosening the bolt decompresses the seal. Mine was very hard to loosen but it did break free. Put your suction line down the middle hole and you can get 99% of the fluid out. Also you can clean the filter while your at it.

I went through the dipstick and was able to get a good amount out. I ended up opening the filter housing too, and cleaned the filter. If I can get it all out of the filter housing, I'll go that route next time.

Some use transmission fluid some oil. You are correct with using what you have in it now.

If I'm not mistaken all v-drive 2005 and newer have 15w40 required

Mine is a 99 Maristar should have said that. I believe the trans is very similar. What ever your manual says is correct. I wish I had a pic of the cover apart then you can see why you need to loosen the allen first.

Here is a basic picture of the filter cover. It is from an old post.

Sprayed mine out with brake cleaner then flushed it with new transmission fluid.
