I wanted to know if it was possible to swap out my old drive shaft that is bent with a new splined drive shaft. My old drive shaft was a keyed not splined.

Thanks
Joe

Can I be the first to ask why you'd want to do that?

every inboard prop I've seen is key'd... why spline?

well i have a 4 blade OJ prop that is meant for a splined shaft, i am in the process of getting the driveshaft replaced and it may be cheaper to get the one that is splined. I do realize this could be a dumb question as i didnt even know there was such a thing as splined driveshafts til i accidentally bought this prop instead of a keyed one...

I'd be willing to bet there will be very little difference in price on the shafts between the old style (keyed) and the new style (splined). Since you already have the splined prop, why not switch to the new style shaft?

There is a "retro" kit available from any MC dealer or Eric Johnson direct depending on year and model.

whoops, i worded my last post wrong...I"m saying it would be cheaper to do the splined shaft because i wouldnt have to buy another new prop, i want to switch to the new style...

what exactly is a "retro" kit, how does it work? I'm also not even sure where i could find a splined driveshaft, or if there would be a market for the prop that i have

Quite simply it is a kit (splined coupler & shaft) to mount in a non-splined application. Again any MC dealer has access to it or it can be ordered direct from Eric Johnson at Johnson props...availablilty depends on the year and model.

I have a shaft that i would be willing to sell. Its from a 1982 S&S And was connected to the powerslot tranny. My coupler wore out. if yours is still good that might be a viable option. Good condition
