Stopped by a local engine shop yesterday that does a lot of marine work. They had a nice red 2011 6.0 sitting on the floor with a "hard water" problem. 30 hours on the MC and the local dealer missed it when doing the Fall winterizing of his used boats. Heads were still on it, and the only visible cracks were around the spark plug holes. It was being test driven by a prospective buyer when they noticed water spewing out of all the cracks. I would guess they'll find more problems once the heads come off. I'll bet the dealer changes his Fall routine.:o

At least it is still a dealer boat and not some poor owner. That would blow! :(

That would be correct.

So, I wonder if they just get a whole new engine from the factory, or are they gonna put in a PMC or go cheap on the fix.

Shop owner told me that the dealer said "fix it right", which may end up being a new motor, if the block is cracked. The dealer is a good guy- I don't think he'll cut corners, especially on a 2011.

Why is the dealer not replacing the engine??? Huh?

Isn't apart yet- probably not making that decision till then, but I'm just an observer.

Oh this makes me laugh. My ex brother in-law had an I/O and screwed up on his winterizing one year and kept his engine running with that stuff for several seasons. He finally had it rebuilt but many vacations were screwed up so he could throw some more JB on it. Dumb!!

Haha, I used JB Weld on some risers on an old I/O boat I had in college. Picked the thing up for 650 bucks, replaced a couple freeze plugs, JB welded the Risers, and had a couple summers full of half naked college girls on MY boat. That was by far the best $650 decision I had ever made.

It wasn't even a bad boat. 1989 19' Monterey with a merc 4.3l. Sold it 2 years later for twice what I paid for it.

We don't believe you, please send pictures of half naked chicks on YOUR boat! :D

Stopped by the shop today- all it needed was new heads. No problems with the block. Kinda surprised me.

Wow.....dodged an expensive bullet there. Not that replacing the heads is cheap, but it could have been much worse.
