When did the LY6 replace the LQ9 in the xstar. I am purchasing a 2006 xstar and dont know which engine model it is.

I believe it was 2007. My 2006 X-45 has the LQ9.

I think the LQ9 is a better option. If memory serves, the LY6 had some issues and it doesn't come with closed loop cooling. I have the LQ9 with closed loop cooling and it has been great.

Do you have any specifics? I'm not aware of any known problems with the ly6 and the ly6's I've seen do come with closed cooling. All I've ever heard about those engines is they like gas

The LQ9 was a closed cooling engine only, no raw water option. The LY6 replaced the LQ9 in 2007 and it was a raw water cooled only from Indmar. If you wanted a SS or closed cooling engine from MC you optioned for the Crusader closed cooling SS engines and a 6.0L engine was an option along with a 5.7L. I can't remember if Crusader had a 8.1L option as well. That's how I remember it.......

There are no issues or problems with the LY6. It is a rock solid workhorse and as Willy pointed out the only downside is it likes gas if you push it hard.

LQ9 also likes (loves?) gas if you push it hard, as well.
