Milk - We bought a 121 Hydroslide from Sports Authority with bindings for $75.00. The bindings aren't the greatest but they are lace-ups and work fine. We went back and forth about what board to get for the girls to learn on. In the end we decided on the Hydroslide because for the amount of time it will be used before they outgrow it the price was right.

Here is a picture of my 8 year old daughter getting up on the board. :)

Great wakeboard shot X2momma!

My kids have only skiied this year (and tubed). I've been pretty lazy with the camera, one shot of Heather at the beginning of the year. She is asking to try one ski, but I want her to be very comfortable on two and able to lift one ski. It'll be a happy day if she makes it up on one before year end!

My little guy ~ Spencer ~ 2 and a half. Pretty good form and balance for his age. I'm holding off for another year or two before he gets to go. His constant requests to "Ski Daddy, Ski?" or "Bakeboard Daddy? Mencer Do it Daddy?" are getting hard to say no to. I tried pulling him in the pool, he just doesn't have the strength to manage the gear.

Ryan

He has a great time on his tube with Mom. Garage sale $5 - that's how all tubes should be priced. He's already used to going behind the boat. Can't wait to try the boom when he's ready.

Yep, that is Northern California in the summer. Hot and dry. The first picture was taken in July at Lake Don Pedro and the second picture was taken last July at New Malones Res. The two are about 20 miles apart up in the "gold country" of NorCal. Humidity up there is next to nothing in the summer.

We gave in without a fight about the wakeboard this summer. If they want to get behind the boat and do something other than tube, I don't really care if it is wakeboarding or skiing. As long as they do it. I know my oldest can get up on the doubles, she is just scared. I don't know how to get around that. Bribery is not working.

Those are great shots of the kids on skiis. :) Steve - Congrats to your son up on one this year. Only took me 33 years to figure it out. :o

Brian--She starts on her stomach and than climbs up to her knees (deepwater start). To get onto her feet she transitions from to knees to one foot on the board and one knee. Then she lets go of the rope with the hand opposite of the foot she already has on the board. Next, she applies equal pressure with her foot and hand to balance the board and transitions from the knee to having both feet on the boar and one hand. Last she slowly stands up.

She is so light it's easy for her. I've tried a few times and just eat it.

Dude,

I got a $25 1st generation Connely Wakeboard on E-bay so I wouldn't have to fork out a couple hundy on a dust collector.

Look for an old Hyperlite or CWB that has the velcro straps that go over the top of the foot and a bungee that goes over the heel.

You should be able to pick one up pretty cheap and you'll be able to see if she's interested in learning.

I learned to wakeboard on said Hyperlite board. I would recommend that too Brian. You should be able to get one for dirt cheap. I can't tell you how many people that board taught to wboard. It is super easy to get up on and with the mongo fins it has it holds straight easy.

My brother in law was sitting on the rear sundeck holding the rope. If Ian should fall for some reason, he lets go of the rope to keep him from being dragged. I also have a trick release that I use if I don't have another adult around to hold the rope.

Easiest way to get them going on the Ski skimmer is to drag them off the beach. I start Ian about 6 feet from the edge of the shore (my grass goes all the way to the lake) and get him set up and then I put the boat barely above idle and he slides right across the grass and skis away every time.

Cool, I have one of the skimmers but havenít gotten any of the kids up on it yet. I do bring it out in case the 5 yr old wants to give it a go.

what I learned with all 5 of those kids I got up a few weeks ago on the ski skimmer is to:
*start out slow, slow, slow. Less than 5 mph got most of those kids up.

* before we learned how to use it, we were telling the kids to keep their knees bent until they were on plane...... wrong! tried it, didn't work and there was so much water coming into their face from the middle they could do nothing but let go....so we learned as soon as they felt the pull, hold onto the handle and straighten their legs....and they're up. You may also need to adjust the handle rope pretty short to begin with (another problem we learned about)

* if they are still standing on the board when they want to stop, stop slowly..... threw them OVER the front of the board a few times:woohoo:

I think them PS 190's have brakes!
there were times when I slowed down slowly.....the kid would still be floating for at least a minute after the boat was completely stopped....that was cool.....they could scream and hollar "I'm sinking"....guess you had to be there:rolleyes:

take plenty of pictures if possible....that motivates them to go the next weekend after they see the slide show and e-mail their teachers and friends.

Each time I see you guys post your kid's pictures, I bring my kids to come look....they always enjoy them.

* the 7 year old dare-devil Emergency Room son of mine got up to 25 mph the last time we were out, but there was so much boat & PWC traffic we could only make short laps....but it was fun!

pic coming soon;)

Not too many skeeters in Bako...we have mosquito fish that eat the larv a in the lake. I could have used it at Britton though. I'm very surprised I didn't get West Nile because of all the bites I got. I even used spray everyday. At the end I found the only one that works for me...an Avon product that someone had and was nice enough to spray the holy begebers on of me. Sheesh, I think the skeeters designed a slalom course on my ankle..boat guides and balls, it's all there and in line. :eek3:

Here's a fun one... my son's friend is riding on a tube, about 10 feet in front of my son, taking pictures with a Canon camera in an underwater case. I took this picture from the boat.

Neil, great shots. I have heard of the tube photo trick. I told Madison she has to master her ski's before I get her a wakeboard. As she was making her first pass, I told my ski buddy that I gaurenteed that after she was back in the boat within 5 minutes, she would bring up the wakeboard. While it wasn't the first thing she said, it only took her about 2 minutes. Maybe I have the next Dallas Friday.

SteveO -- yep -- get her the board, but make her promise to keep skiing too... it's amazing how quickly you get 'rusty' if you don't keep skiing as well as wakeboarding.. It takes a lot of boat gas to create a Dallas Friday...

MarkP -- thanks... we had a great summer -- now have 460 hours on my 2002! Other than the Perfect Pass is acting weird (fluctuates), the MC ran great!

8" wide skis and 75# kid -- talk about a great weight to displacement ratio. Oh to be young again!

I drove for a learn to ski our club put on last Sat. Two boats and 28 skiers over 4 hours ages 5 to about 35. Almost a 100% sucess rate. Even driving 8 mph with a 60# kid on the boom becomes easier when you see them smile as the get up for the first time.:)

NeilM
08-22-2005, 04:38 PM
Brian, it's been a great summer! I did 2 half-marathons and a couple of 10-K's as well... been too busy (or no internet at the lake) for TT or much of anything else. The wife and I are training for our first full marathon (Honolulu in December), so I'm feeling pretty rough (I-T band) at the moment.

.. daughter is now 22... 'not sure I have any pics she'd allow me to put in the swimsuit thread, but I'll look...

I've caught up on your baby pics and threads -- great to see things are going well for you.

cheers,

She made it about 3/4 of the way and had to walk the rest. She didn't get out of bed the rest of the time she was their. WI is called the show skiing capitol of the world. Something like 35 - 40 amature show teams in the state. Think of Sea World only bigger with 50 plus skiers involved and on the water at the same time behind multiple boats. (5 with our club)

Tell your daughter to keep trying. Everyone has to fall before they figure it out. I think Mandy fell atleast 25 times before she figured out the hand turn on her swivel ski .

You ever stop and think how different it will be for our kids than it was for us (at least some of us.)

I grew up skiiing behind old outboards. We always skiied heading up river so that we could drift back home when the motor broke down. Owning a MasterCraft was nothing more than an unreachable dream.

Our kids will grow up living their summers on the MasterCraft. They will have fun and there will be great memories, but they will take for granted that the MC is a dreamboat to long and yearn for.

For me it is a dream come true. For them, it's "the boat."

Congrats !!

They grow up fast, before long he'll be out there behind the boat too.

My 10yr old must have been that small once, but I sure can't remember it. Notice he has the "I'm boarding behind a MasterCraft" grin.

I learned to slalom ski (and to get up on slalom) on a 15'er with a 65hp motor. You guys are right, these kids don't know how good they have it !!!!!!!

You Go Girl!! Great form! :)

I have a red head too. Don't you feel like you should own stock in Banana Boat sunscreen? Even with the rash guard and the SPF 50 sunblock mine still turns pink.

Here are a couple of pictures taken yesterday. The wife wanted some taken for Christmas cards. We had a jump clinic and I think that I went over the jump about 100 times. I am so sore! The wife did hit the old jump for the 1st time. It was a great day teaching our club members to jump. The look on their faces when they ride off a jump for the first time is worth all the soreness! Steveo-you are next!

t-ball & coach pitch rules!!!!!!!!!

here's today's lesson.....no matter how you tie those strings, they will not stay tied for the hour it takes to play the game:uglyhamme

I've seen a kid's mother tie his shoes in the dugout, walk straight out to me, and some kind of magic force unties them before he can get to the plate!

here's my boy:D
