I always thought that the stock motor was a 310, the next option was the MCX, then the LQ9, then the big block.

I was browsing my manual, and see that the LQ9 is much less horsepower, needs 92 octane, blah blah blah.

My question is....what is the upside? Why is the caddy engine an option even above the MCX which seems to have better torque and has the ability to use regular pump gas at the marina.

Not knocking the other engine...just wondering.

I was assuming the LQ9 was 400hp not 320! How many marinas have 92 octane fuel?

Just a thought.

Hey Jim....can you seriously feel the difference between the MCX and the LQ9???? There's quite a price jump between the two.

I would think the only reason for the LQ9 would be salt water use where the closed cooling is a benefit to engine life. IMO

Things must have changed this year.

Reading out of my manual, page 6-3...
LQ9. 4.6 litres
320 horsepower at 6000 rpm

Max rpm, 5800 - 6200

Cooling system: Fresh water closed

I didnt notice the fresh water closed part, that must be the draw.

How did they ever get the LQ9 from 320 hp to 385hp???

Was that a typo in my manual? No sweat either way, I just noticed the HUGE price difference and checked the spec and it didnt make sense.

The closed water cooling does make sense though.

Who outside the engine plant tests them anyway. I would bet they don't show those numbers on the dyno, They probably just use those numbers as guidelines anyway.
