My wife is from SW FL and we love going down to Lake Placid,FL (city name) and skiing and boating on Lake June in Winter (lake name), or as called by the locals, Lake June. Her grandfather used to have a small cabin on the lake.

The first time I heard that name though, I laughed.

I don't know if our water gets to 78, even in the middle of the summer.

Those are some big cracks in the ice waterbug. When will that start pushing up to shore?

Those cracks are normal. It is kind of exciting when you hear a crack coming your way and it actually goes through the hole you are fishing in. No danger, just the natural flight instinct takes over your insides and you try not to let it show.

My water temp gauge must need adjusting .... It says the river here in Ohio is still in the 40s... ( or at least that is what I think it would read if I dared get close to the water this early ;)

Thanks for rubbing it in ... You owe us all a beer and a free pull.

See you in a few days.

Lake Norman is 56 today and it will not hit 75 until May. Growing up waiting for the ice to melt on the Nebraska lakes makes the 54-56 winter water temps here special to us. Just can't get excited about the year round mowing that comes with it... But it does beat the snow shoveling we had to give up. ;)

Yup. Completely normal. Earlier this year we could hear the cracks coming across the lake. As it got closer it split and came through all 5 holes and the whole fish house dropped an inch or two. Not the first time, but it always freeks me out.

Got mine out of Storage yesterday! Going to get a new cover made to fit around the tower.

http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww238/wayne_carlson/IMG_1058.jpg

Actually going to get out on the St. Croix this weekend since we are supposed to be in the upper 70s this weekend, but not in the water, for a test drive on my buddies boat. He just picked up a used 2009 Axis A22.

Thanks for the info, I meant a factory style tower with cutouts for the tower legs. Have been using an oversized one to "make due" for a few years now...

I just took my cover, cut a slit where the tower mounts then had a guy sew velcro to each side of the slit and reenforce the end of the cut. works great

This thread is a killer...

New ski just showed up yesterday. Between the new ski and new to us boat (bought late September), can't wait for the ice to be out. On the plus side, it is abnormally warm here for March so we may see warm enough water by mid to late April!

We stuck between Emma Long Park and Mansfield Dam to avoid most of the chop. I agree that Spring is here in Central Texas. Ready to try out Lake Travis. Only been on Travis on board a king sized party boat.

Tried Lake Georgetwon a couple weeks ago and it's nice but small.

Travis was 60 degrees last time I checked it. We are at Lake Travis Marina... great spot, but it just depends on what you like. I have my spots where I can get glass waters most days... just have to know where to go. Last year water temps hovered in the high 80's during summer, we could have gotten our boat out.. but when we looked at how many people where on Lake Austin... No way I was letting the kids board with all that traffic.

I usually ride on the IntraCoastal since it's 4 miles from my house but it stays cold pretty late being that it gets lots of water from the Mississippi.

Might have to go checkout some other water if the Blind River is 72.

Holler if you head out this way to Amite or Blind. I've got a couple friends that ride the intercoastal, but I've never been. The close to home thing always keeps me on Diversion/Blind as it's a pain to get my trailer out from where its kept.
