I was having a discussion with a dealer today about possible towers for a 2000 maristar should I decide to purchase it. He suggested a Skylon brand tower because the bimini top that would attach to it provides more shade than other brands. What do you guys think? What is your opinion on a tower for this older model boat? Thanks everyone. I enjoy reading all of your posts.

I wanted a New Dimension or Samson tower but just couldn't justify the cost for an 11 year old boat ('00 Maristar 230) that was in less than perfect condition. I ended up getting an off season deal on an Aerial Airborne that was too good to pass up ($1,300 for tower, nav light, wiring, 2 racks, and 4 Polk DB651 tower speakers). It had a good reputation based on my research in forums. I think it looks decent too:

Overall it's pretty good. Not quite the quality that I would have expected if it was a custom, american made tower but better than I had expected for a universal, Chinese tower. It doesn't make any noises, is pretty solid, and I just tighten the bolts once or twice a season. I also added a custom TowerBiminis.com bimini that is pretty huge.

Just put the NDT on our 2000 Maristar 210. Folds forward. I can't seem to add link in this post with phone but search Maristar 210 Tower Choices to see more options

Nothing like OEM for resale. NDs are the ticket if you can afford it. If not you may want to wait and save up. Not saying there's anything wrong with other towers, just that a lot a people will walk from a boat that doesn't have the OEM tower (like me).

Appreciate the responses. For those of you who have purchased the OEM towers, in your opinion do they give off enough shade. I'm a pretty fair skinned guy and don't want to get toasted while driving :-)

Also, what kind of price are we talking for the ND tower?

I'm going to investigate the boat today. Guy wants $16K for a 2000 vrs 230, but it will need a new cover, tower, bimini, the works. He says it only has about 275 hours on it. Some of the seats may need to be redone as well. You guys think this is a fair price?

I will add pics tonight.

That's a sweet looking setup as well Jeff.

I am going with http://www.towerbiminis.com/ since i did not want bimini on top of a 10' tower.

For pricing, go to http://www.newdimensiontowers.com/ and talk with Wayne.

here is the link for more info on Maristar tower options (http://mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=40875&highlight=tower+choices)

While there are going to be several opinions here is what i suspect you will find.

1. NDT is going to follow the lines of your boat the best
2. Samson is a high quality product and will cost more than NDT
3. Monster makes a high quality product and will cost substantially less than NDT or Samson
4. Aerial and Roswell and a host of others are options as well.

Bottom line...your boat, your preferences, your pocketbook. You will have to see where those meet for you.

I purchased a factory blem mt2 from monster for $750, it arrived in 2 days without a scratch and I installed it myself.

I just installed a new dimension on my 99' prostar 205v. Fit perfect and was super easy to install. I paid 1700.00 plus 175.00 shipping to Louisiana. Since its the same as factory, I can order factory style boat cover etc. that will fit without modification.

Note: ND and Samson build towers to fit your model boat, not one size fits all like Monster and some others.

I still haven't figured out how to post pics. My boat and tower is identical to the one on the new dimension site labeled as 99' thru 06' prostar. Only difference is the rims on the trailer.

How would a bimini fit across that?

Only thing that concerns me with the ND towers is that the bimini is at the very top of the tower which seems like it would cut down on the shade for the driver.

I like the idea of installing it myself but I REALLY don't want to screw it up :D It would definitely make it more reasonable cost wise.

Monster has a couple of biminis you can see on their website. I have the factory new dimension tower on my boat, but my bimini is attached to the windshield. It sits about 2 feet lower than the top of the tower.

The directions that came with the New Dimension tower were very clear. There was a general installation guide and a separate sheet with multiple measurements and color pictures that were very specIfic to my boat. All bolts, reinforcement plates, etc were included. It even came with the two part fiberglass reinforced filler to set the aluminum backing plates with. I installed it by myself in just over an hour. You do need 5/16" and 1/2" Allen head wrenchs, a 3/4" socket, and a drill with a 5/8 bit and a larger bit to counter sink with. I used Forster bits which worked perfect. If I had it to do over I would strongly consider having ND install the nav. Light and maybe pre wiring for speakers. I haven't done either of these yet but I think I can handle it. Very high quality product. Everyone has different expectations but i just couldn't bear to drill holes into my boat to install anything that I might regret.

I'm not '88 fan of the looks of the monster tower...and I had one on my '88 tristar. I will say it was rock solid. My opinion is that the older the boat, the less the return on investment in a ND or Samson tower.

I think you need to balance function, quality, looks and price on a boat over 10 years old. I researched this same tower decision two years ago and finally pulled the trigger on a Monster MT2. I liked NDT but couldn't justify the cost on a 2003. It has been rock solid and I get lots of compliments on it. It was a great solution for me in terms of meeting the balance of price and quality. As you've read, there are lots of great options for towers...it comes down to personal choice and finally just doing it! I am sure you will be happy with whatever you decide.

Understood. Any chance of a teamtalk member discount for the new dimension towers? :D
