We stayed at the Moon Palace Resort when we were there. Most amazing resort we've been to. Food was fantastic, service was exceptional.

one of the guys that works for me goes a bit farther down to Akumal (~45 mins - an hour south)and has stayed at several very nice (reasonably priced) all inclusive resorts for the past 10 or so years. I will see if I can get the names of those he would recommend.

he provided me with a link to a live webcam (refreshes every 10-20 seconds) from that area that I have up all day long on my other work computer so I can glance over to ponder it from time to time during the day to take my mind off work related stresses ... ~~> http://www.locogringo.com/Upload/akumal-beach-cam.html

You can't go wrong with any of the palace resorts. If you don't want to stay right in Cancun there are several palace resorts on the Riviera Maya(45-60 min. from the airport). We stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace which was adults only and we really liked it. Most of these resorts have 5 or 6 restaurants in them so you don't need to go anywhere unless you want to. Last time we stayed right in Cancun at Cancun Dreams(no problems). Was a great place. I think it had 7 restaurants. They also had their own dolphin tank and you could swim with them which we did and was a great experience.

Sandos Playacar Resort (not Sandals) in Playa del Carmen. It is large but we have stayed their twice and would go back again. Best beach by far of all the resorts in the area!

I was checking that place out on tripadvisor... it is definitely nice. Might have to look into that kind of trip this summer. All inclusives are great if its a really nice resort like that one.

I'd suggest it to anyone heading to Cancun. Lots of great memories there.

Stayed at Dreams, a few years ago. It is all inclusive. Great restaurants.

It is an older resort, right on the beach. Kinda near the ferry to: Isla mujeres, which be another neat place to stay. Neat little town on the island, or can be a fun day trip.

You do realized, November is hurricane season!

We were just there a few weeks ago, really like it there. We stay at the Gran Caribe Real. As others have offered choices as well i would take your time and do the research and find what will work best for you.

got the following from the guy that works for me ... he stated it depends a lot on what you are looking for. He/his wife are late 40s/early 50s and like the more relaxed style vacation.

Our favorite (Adults Only) is the Catalonia Royal Tulum on Xpu-ha beach which is south of Playa del Carmen and north of Akumal. It’s a little more than hour from the airport.

http://www.locogringo.com/xpuha/cataloniaroyaltulum.html?name=Catalonia%20Royal%20 Tulum

The only all inclusive in Akumal is the Akumal Beach Resort which is in Central Akumal. It is not quite as nice a resort as others that we have stayed but the location more than makes up for it. About an hour and a half from the airport.

The other is the Catalonia Privileged Beach which is on Playa Maroma. It is rated one of the top ten beaches in the world on Travel Channel. I have not been to this resort but we loved the other Catalonia Resort and I expect this one to be just as good and have heard great reviews about it and the beach. This is the closest resort to the airport and is located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. I’m guessing a 35-40 ride.

Good advice to get out of Cancun (the city) and go to Playa or the Palace Resorts. Make sure you tour the Aztec ruins while you are there.

Are they mostly Mayan Ruins?? Just askin.... I went to Tulum and Coba, each a Mayan ruin. Even Chichén Itzá, which I should have went to, is Mayan.

Oops looks like I can't spell Cancun. Thanks for all the input. We decided to book our trip to the Aventura Spa Palace since we are not taking the kids. As much as we love summer can't wait for November. Thanks again.

Its a hard rock cafe hotel now...my wife and family were there the first week in January. Love the Palace chain.... Say hello to eduard and vanilla (yeah her nick name is vanilla) they are part of the entertainment team...
