Hello,

I am looking at 2 boats.

1. 2006 x-30

2. 2007 x-14

I am looking for pros and cons to each of these boats.

Our situation use :

1. Wakesurfing
2. Wakeboarding
3. Water skiing

We are a family of 5 people.

Thanks

I can only speak to the X-14. We have a 10 X-14v.

We are a waterski family. Had a PS190. Wanted more range in terms of versatility. Enjoyed cruising, taking larger groups. Also, have family / friends who are serious wake boarders. I enjoy surfing.

X-14v is a reasonable ski boat. There are some compromises in terms of wake; however, from my experience far less than other cross-over (Air Nautique for example). The boat has plenty of torque to pull anyone out of the hole.

Wakeboarding is excellent--providing great range in terms of wake ramp.

Wake-surfing requires external ballast. I understand the 11 boats have plug-and-play systems making this much easier. The boat has the same hull shape as the 197 (stretched) so there is not much freeboard, keeping the wake pretty flat. But with weight, all things can be overcome.

I am guessing the X-30 will provide bigger wakes due to increasing freeboard. You will certainly compromise for skiing in this case.

I hope this helps. Happy to answer any specific questions.

I've got an 06 X30 and it's a pretty sweet surf boat. I do some recreational skiing behind it from time to time. You wont be counting any balls with it that's for sure. It does have a nice wake board wake but that's not my thing.

If you end up getting the 30 I've work out 99% of the issues with making a killer surf wake so you wont have to guess on that.

i have an '08 X14 and my buddy an '06 X30 ... both great boats but both extremely different. If you are OK with recreational waterskiing, then go for the X30 ... it is one of my favorite boats of all time. You are not going to surf (well) in an X14 ...just was not designed for that. For me, i love the X14 .. but i also have neighbors with X15, X25 and X30 .... and i know where their keys are

I have a Prostar 214, same hull as the X-14. Its a fantastic ski boat. The wake board wakes are not bad with the factory ballast system, but could bennifit from more weight. Like 2RLAKE said, surfing is another thing. We have done it, but it can't come close to the surf abbility of the X-30

I find our X14 to be weak on the surfing front thought we're not super into that. As far as boarding it's sufficient but the only thing I can get 'massive' air on is the air chair--the wake is damn fine for that. I've not run a course with the X14 (use the 87 prostar 190 for that) but it is a great ski boat as long as you ski in the low 30's. I wouldn't try a course @ 27 or 28, but @ 36 it's pretty good--a bit rampy on the prop wash but good for a boat of its size.
I've boarded behind a 30 and it has a much better wake but I wouldn't want to ski behind it unless it's all I had.
*Note: we're skiers at heart but enjoy some 'wake required' sports too :)
Good luck with your hunt

If you ski more than surf, buy the X14. However if you do not plan to ski much buy the X30. I own an X14.
