We love our X-10. We do want more room. Love the look and crawled around in the 2006 X-30. Concerned about this being so new. Does anybody know how much wider the wake is. We have a 9 year old just started jumping the wake of the X-10.
We are going to test drive the X-30 on Monday but a test drive isn't the same as owning.
What would you do????

Take your gear with you. A test ride/pull is every bit as important (maybe more) than the test drive. Many times things look/feel different at each end of the rope.

I owned a 2002 X-30 and it was a great boat, but the wake was too wide for my little guys to cross easily at the time. The ski wake was pretty big too, although you can get a trim tab/plate on the 2006 which is supposed to make the wake smaller. The test drive and ride behind is definitely the way to go. If your family is diehard wakeboard only, the X-Star has a super wake,is also quite roomy, but definitely more expensive than the X-30. Good luck.

Ok. We went out in the X-30 on Saturday. When we first got in the boat and drove it around, looked at the wake at my speed, husbands speed and nine year old speed; we were both like why even try to wakeboard behind this boat. My husband finally decided since where here I'll go, I took over driving. I played around with the trim tab (with help from dealer), put the tab quarter the way down, got a really vertical rampy wake, shortened the rope to 55 feet and with no effort my husband was getting 7-8 feet of air and landing fine on the otherside of the wake. We usually ride with a 60 or 65 foot rope (behind X-10) but the wake is too wide to get across the X-30. We both were impressed after playing around with the speeds and trim tab.
I have notice many people complain about not having enough power on the 2006 X-30's, we didn't have any problems the one we are looking at has the MCX 350.
We are working out the details for trade in on the X-10 so I do think we'll do it. We love the X-10 and hope the X-30 will be the same.
The X-Star is an awesome boat but the price is up there and it has less seating room. I also don't like the pickled fork look and has rumor that the front end does not go through rough water very well.

Time for a stupid question.
What is the main characteristic of a boat responsible for wake width?
Using 2005 spec's there's not much difference between an X-10 and an X-30.
The X-30 is 98 inches wide amidship, weighs 3300 lbs, and has the same depth amidship (26.5 in) and at transom (27.5 in) as the X-10.
The X-10 is 95 inches wide amidship, and weighs in at 3075 lbs.
Would a 3 inch difference in Beam cause a huge disparity in wake width?
Is there a huge disparity between an X-10 and an X-30, or has the hull changed significantly between 2001 and now?
Wouldn't overall weight have affect the water displacement which would translate to wake height more than wake width?
Thanks.

Chris,
The X-30 is a great boat. My wife and I tested one last year before we bought our X45. I just wanted to let you know that the rumor about the pickled fork not going through rough water is not correct. I have my boat on a lake that has a lot of chop and never have any problems.

Maristarman, The 2006 X-30 weighs 4100 lbs and has a 101" beam. It is a little wider and a lot heavier than the previous X-30's. The hull has been redesigned also. The 2006 X-10 will also have a new hull (according to Midwest MasterCraft).
The wake width sure felt and looked huge compaired to the X-10.
I hope we love the X-30!!!!!!!

My daughter wanted the X-45! She crawled around it and the price was out of our range. Happy to learn the front end chop report is incorrect. I love the yellow on your boat that was my husbands first choice in a new boat. But, new our X-30 we are taking out of the showroom so it's mainly white with black acents. We get it Thursday!!! Can't wait!

Maristarman, I think the wake width would change by hull design and weight distribution, my guess is the amount of water displaced plus the wetted surface area determines wake size and width. But I am a wife and not a boat designer. Chris
