I am trying to get the steering wheel housing away from the dash. I got the steering wheel off, but I am unable to remove the the metal ring that mounts the steering wheel on the shaft. The steering wheel unit is made by (Safe T). Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks Clayton

Do you have a prop puller?

Or a wheel puller. It's just a splined shaft that hasn't been separated in 27 years. A little penetrating oil will go a long way too.

You can always rent a wheel puller from the local auto parts store.

No I don't have a puller but I'm sure I can find one. Thanks for the help guys. This is one of the last things to come off the boat so she is ready to get a new gel coat from top to bottom. Thanks Clayton

I'd put the wheel back on without the center nut, apply penetrating oil and try to wiggle the whole assembly off using the wheel.

Sounds like a plan. Nothing like a little free leverage.

Worked like a champ. Thanks for the help from all. Clayton
