I've seen a couple really cool boat houses over the years, and now a friend of mine is thinking of having one built. Seems like most I've seen are on pylons or posts, but I have seen a couple floaters. I saw this on onlyinboards.com today and had to send it to him. Anyway I thought maybe some of you might have some cool pics that he can check out.

This must be somewhere near Portland, OR- probably on the Willamette this boat appears to be on consignment through a new dealer there. Imagine cleaning your boat in there probably air conditioned....

Used to live on Harrington Lake in KY. Some floating boat houses on that lake with 2 stories, kitchens, plumbing with lift pumps and full electric. Ever get there check out the ones near Kennedy Bridge.

Wow, what else can be said that hasn't been? Some of these are so extravagant that its nutz! Many of these look like floating units. That's some serious engineering going on there. There is one that we saw on Lake Coeur D Alene last year that must of been built at the marina and not delivered yet. It had concrete docks, bathroom, and slate roofing shingles.

In Wisconsin, many counties are beginning to regulate boathouses. The arguments is they increase runoff and disturb the shoreline habitat. Current boathouses are grandfathered, but cost to repair can't exceed XX% of the value.

These boathouses, however, are beautiful!

Maybe a dumb question, but since we only use our place in MN in the summer, I wonder. It appears as though some of these are in cold-weather states and thus have ice form on the lakes in the winter. And then the ice typically pushes up on the shoreline in the spring. How do these places deal with that construction-wise? I would think the ice strength could do some real damage.

I doubt those are build on waters that have a hard freeze.

I believe a lot of the places shown are keyed into the bedrock at the bottom of the lake using either crib structures or steel.

Some, if not all, likely have bubbler systems running in the winter months as well to keep the ice from forming around the boat house.

All steel into lake bed or tied into bedrock. Bubbling is important

I know in upstate NY, the houses are obviously into the bedrock, there are obviously hard freezes, but they drain the lakes a few feet prior to winter.
