View Full Version : Addition of bow sack - what will it do for the wake

I have an 2010 X-15 with stock ballast (rear port+starboard and KGB). I was considering adding a sack to the bow. My question is: what will it do for the wake? Will it just give it the capability of making a bigger wake or would it improve the shape or possibly provide the ability to make it more narrow?

increasing weight up front will improve the wake ramp, easier transition, getting rid of the vertical shaped wake.

should minimize wake spill over as well.

You should try a 750# sac in the walkway first but put it more toward the center, not all the way forward to see if you like the wake that way. Then move it forward to see how that is. Experiment.

As said, more weight toward the front will mellow the wake making it more of a gradual ramp but less "peaky"

Pretty easy to check the effect of more weight. Have some friends out in the boat have them sit in different places and see how it changes the wake. Keep moving people around and see what happens.

I did this to dial in the surf on the starboard side. My girlfriend surf right foot forward. Had two people with one weighed about 200 and the other 120. Ended up with 200lb person behind driver and 120 person in the bow all the way over to the right. Made the surf wake perfect for her.

I was thinking about the getting the IBS sack that goes under the seats. But after playing around with the weight I decided to buy 2 260lb side sacs and put under the seats so I can fill them individually. I've upgraded my rear sacs to 750's so now we should be able surf either side even with no one else in the boat.

BTW, I got the following from Mastercraft

Boat Model
Total Weight (lbs): 550
KGB: 250
Port: 150
Stbd: 150
I prefer the idea of putting the sack under the seats in the bow. Keeps it easy for the bodies to move around. Good suggestion above: I 'll start with extra bodies and change thier position to see what what I need to get what I desire.
