Gov, that prop is still salvagable for refurb and stored as a spare. It looks bad but it's salvagable...

Note to self: Do not show old prop or dirty tires on TT forum...

Might be a little easier if you put the camera down or get a photographer.
But then again, we love pictures!

The Governor

The old prop came off with no problem. It gave that nice little "pop" sound....and that was all she wrote.

Here's the old prop next to the new one.

Lemme ask a stupid question.

If you dont want to change your top speed, and your current prop is in good condition, is there any reason to swap props?

On my I/O there was a huge reason, moving to a 4 or 5 blade prop from the factory 3 blade piece of crap made a huge difference...like you filled your engine and tranny with silk....

But, assuming MC uses the best tuned prop as it is....is there any reason to switch?

milkmania

But, assuming MC uses the best tuned prop as it is....is there any reason to switch? Thus the past debates on the OJ vs Acme. It's tough to speak directly about this issus here but the general reasons being possibly better performance with the Acme prop. In my opinion, the swap I made to the Acme 541 was worth the difference it made. Smoother operation (CNC mfg), harder bite on take-off and a new toy... :toast:

Oh, and incase anyone was wondering, the new prop is a ACME 543. I forgot to mention that at the beginning. What can I say....Miller Lite is good! :toast:

Dan K

Gov,
That looks like an Acme 801 just like mine. Great choice, you should notice an increase in top end over your 4 blade (even if it was in good shape) and about the same hole shot.

Let us know the results.

Cool pictures! You make me want to go out and buy a new prop just so I can go thru the replacement process :)

It was really quite easy. With all the good advice from this site....a little liquid courage....and 20 minutes later I had a new prop on the MC! :D

BigBarney

The liquid courage can come in handy for nervous fingers. Replaced my tower nav light Saturday with the LED version. I must have un-wired/re-wired the connection 5 or 6 times before I finally felt comfortable. My wife just set in the garage and laughed at me.

Then what happens when you ding the CNC prop?
Will a local shop be able to repair?

Does yours constantly call you an idiot, sneak in the bathroom and pour ice cold water on you in the shower, hide your boat keys, and wake you up in the morning by pressing bamboo shavings underneath your toenails? If so, then I have found my wife's long, lost sister.

Gov ... sweet post, my wife is sitting watching HGTV and scrapbooking while I am reading stuff on TT , (actually have both kids to bed before 10 - wow) I convinced her to come over and look at the pictures so that she knows what goes into changing a prop ... that and I was laughing at your comment about the cotter key, had the same realization a few weeks ago after toasting one and having to put on the spare ... our prop was pretty munched thanks to the quick response of the L18;) (not just bent, but ripped) local prop guy fixed it all up for $100. Glad we didn't have the SS one on the boat that the boat came with, that would have brought tears and then some! ...seriously though, your images were fun - congrats. Back to TT and trying to ignore HGTV!

you are going from a 4 blade to 3 blade..why?

Ya can't beat a CNC!! :headbang: :headbang: The Acme CNC 3 blade on my boat outperformed my OJ Legend 4 Blade hands down with anything you could throw at it. CNC is the next generation of props

Dan K
08-12-2005, 02:49 PM
I agree Jrandol, With the surface area on the CNC 3 blade there is no need for a 4 blade.

The grass has been cut! :uglyhamme

And I didn't personally damage the prop, that's how it was when I bought the boat.

And by the way, the new prop is SWEET! We finally got a chance to take it out yesterday. The boat gets out of the hole QUICK! It actually ripped the rope out of my hands a few times until my driver got used to it.......or until I found some more strength from deep down to actually hold on to it! :D

The boat feels good up top too....but I can't tell what the top speed is until I get my speedos fixed.

Well, I didnít get photos of the ďswapĒ. I guess it was over too fast.. Had the boat Sunday. Felt great but the Windy conditions kept me from giving it a good run.

The new growl is cool though..
