Scammers right?
I saw a piece on the news about people being tired of all the scammers on E-bay, E-Bay's inability to to effectively contain the issue and thirdly what people are doing about it. E-bay's fees continue to rise almost in paralell with the risks associated with listing there.
Anyone feel the same? Food for thought, what's for lunch boy's??

The scam is send me your money and I am in Nigeria and stole these pictures of a boat I do not own. Heard of it?
Steve
LOL
AKA the Nigerian Check Scam.
No kidding though, you would think they could do something to track these bastages and reduce their effectiveness or eliminate them entirely.

AH, old scam new format. Used to get monthly letters from foreign companies/people trying to hide their 'hot' money overseas in USA, now this a different spin on the same crap.
You are right it is becoming a big problem!
They are also scamming with paypal. Yesterday my husband recieved 2 emails from paypal saying that someone had tried to hack into our account and it had been suspended. The email went on to ask us to submit our credit card number /with pin and other personal info so they could reinstate it. I told him to call paypal just to make sure it was legit. I am glad I did. It was a scam. :( The real scary part about it is that these guys are some how using the same email address. He had saved other emails we had recieved after using paypal. Same sender email address, logo everything.

Yes - it's a scam. eBay will have deleted it before the day is over.
How these things can work is beyond me...
Anyone who has ever sold on eBay knows it took this clown at least 30 minutes to an hour to compose the ad - they don't pay to post it because they hack in and do it under someone else's account but still it is a time sink - but it must draw in something or they wouldn't take the time to do it.
This sort of cr@p and 'neighborhood spam' (work from home etc) signs are really starting to irritate me.

Momma,
I got taken by this very e-mail about three years ago. As soon as I sent the e-mail the look of the page changed substantially and that is when I knew something was up. Three phone calls later and about 30 minutes of pure panic and all was well again.

I am glad I didn't have to go through that panic. How did you fix it? Cancel the card?
I am constantly amazed that these guys can do this stuff. Can you imagine the good they could do for society if they quit working on the dark side?

Canceled the card, the Paypal account and the E-bay account in a matter of minutes, thank goodness.

Yesterday on MarketWatch they were talking about huge losses Ebay is seeing when Ebay Retailers are advertising their own website with tons of items that were once all listed on Ebay. Now these retailers just list a couple of items and lead consumers to their own more profitable site.
Yahoo and others jumped on the chance to get people set up for such a strategy. Now Ebay is taking whatever they can get by offering a service to get you set up in such a manner to post some things on Ebay and have a free and clear site of your own without any Ebay logos or anything.
My opinions - Sounds like desperation to me. Craigslist is taking tons of market share. But I think CL is just getting set up with tons of traffic to either sell, start charging, or eventually go public after they start charging. If you visit CL you've got to have a pretty good idea of the bandwidth they are paying for.

I get 2 of these emails everyday, Momma. The trick is to hover over the address & see where the URl is actually going. And to keep in mind that Paypal will NEVER send these types of emails.
