Anyone have opinions either way? Thanks in advance.

i have used both.

I like the contour because of price point and how it fits on a helmet for biking etc...

The new go pro 2 has some really nice lens / quality though.

I have been using the GoProHD and love it due to its versatility. I have used the ches strap, head mount and the adhesive mounts on different locations on the boat. Havent used the contour, but I love the GoPro as it has a ton of accessories. Also never had any problems with it, its durable, water proof and reliable. Also has good image stabilization and sound recording.

I have ContourHD, my brother has GoPro, GoPro has a much better range of mounts, Contour floats, image wise they are pretty much identical.

Not tried the new GoPro

I have the gopro hd as well. Couldn't be happier, takes awesome video and stills, tons of mounts, and the customer service is top notch.

Had a mount brake which caused my gopro to sink to the bottom at the cable park (now use a chums camera float). Found the camera thank god but sent them pics of the broken mount and they hooked me up with replacements and more.

The new hd hero 2 is basically twice as good as the original. Check out the video below to get a comparison to see how much they improved it. IMOH the contour doesnt come close to the new hd hero 2.

A few days ago they were running a special with any purchase of the gopro hd hero 2 you got a free lcd backpak mount included.

Also a video that compares the old gopro with the contour 1080. The new gopro is even better as you have seen from the previous video.

I have a contour HD and I really like it. the on/off is very simple even with gloves on when sledding. I like it due to the closeness of it to whatever you are mounting it on

I also bought the water proof case for mine and is it all the time

Have the GOPRO for motorsports. The mount breaking is a flaw in design (but also caused by not loosening the mount for adjustment according to the people on the motorsports forums). I have had one break as well. (I was lucky it broke off and fell into the cockpit as I entered the pits) Told they used to warranty it but no longer do. I bought replacement mounts/housings from amazon cheap....

Your experience may vary.

Have you guys used your GoPros indoors? How is the video and picture quality?

Looking to get the contour roam before summer with a waterproof case. I like the low profile. Just need some ideas on how to attach to the ski pylon?

So how do they work indoors for pic or video? I am trying to figure out if they work for an overall family camera, or it they are pretty much only good out doors.

Indoors or out I think they are more of a fixed lense fish eye; wide and nearsighted.

Just got the GoPro Hero2 surf edition over the weekend so I can take some video for a snowboarding trip this week. Can't wait to use it for something cool rather than just film my dog run around the house and play it back in fast and slow speeds.

JDL, look at Corel VideoStudio Pro software for video editing. You can download trial from the web.

GoPro has better image quality and uses a standard SD card, so you just slip it into an SD card reader.

As far as mounts, the GoPro is 10x better IMO!

Did I mention they make a backdoor float!

GOPRO now has a float for the camera case. If the whole mount falls off it sinks... but if its just the camera it works well. I am going to attach two of them to mine this year. Never had a problem with it.

Tell me this... How useful are either for wake boarding? One report that I read indicated the wide angle lens on both makes them good for mounting to your chest or helmet for a rider's point of view, but lousy if your shooting from the boat towards the rider as the rider is too small a portion of the picture. I'm assuming the tower mounted cameras sold by MC as an accessory have a longer lens to get a better image of the rider, but the cost of those cameras is insane.

We used a gopro last summer and it is, like you said, good for mounting to a person for the riders perspective. But mounted on the boat 80' from the rider, it doesn't do as well. Here is a image from one of our GP videos. The camera was mounted to the ski pylon but it would be better mounted from the tower. Surfing videos are better since they are closer to the boat.

Image quality on the GP is great though. This is the GP 960.

Love my GoPro hero2. Havent used it on the boat yet (just bought the boat) but I plan to take some video of some skiing here this season. I took a video of a local offroad trail mounted to the rear window of my jeep though:

Also a quick one of riding my bike around the block:

The accessories alone make the gopro worth it. Wifi Bacpac will be revolutionary to the personal camera market. It'll be great.

No a GoPro but pretty much the same thing for a little less money on sale TODAY only (4/27/12) on "woot.com".

This thing actually comes with a LED screen so you can see the pics/vid you just took. This is a pricey aftermarket feature on GoPro.

Ok, so I use my GOPRO HD on my racecar.... (road racing - full race setup, stiff suspension - not a street car converted to a racecar but a full on racecar)

SO far I have had two mounts break at the clear base (not so good). Film is awesome but the mount is complete crap...(The base of the clear part). Must be the vibration of the racecar?

It has fallen off the car twice. Recovered once by falling back into the car. The second time recovered it (the camera) was broken (From the track). I am working with GOPRO for repair (at my expense) but it has been a death march... Only on the car for three or four weekends thus far in two years and has only lasted 2 of the four.

Hind-sight: Use a fishing leader for safety and/or teather if the mount breaks.

Will keep ya'll posted if interested...

I rented a GoPro from Borrowlenses.com for a week long trip at the lake. Weekly rental is only $42 but the shipping to east coast was nearly 3/4 of that. Still better than buying it since I don't think I would do it again.

I like the waterproof part and attaching it to the boat gave me much better video but it was too far from the boarder. We attached it to the board for a run and that was cool for a different perspective, but ater a couple of shots not so good. We also attached it to my son's helmet and that was cool. But again you can only do so much with it. I did add some fishing line tether as a failsafe in case the camera mount broke or fell off.

I am going to look in to a suction mount type tripod (maybe something like this http://tinyurl.com/9586w4h ) and use my HD video camera. I really want more action of the skier/boarder and the video camera gives me much more if I can just mount it somehow to the boat.

We did have a great time white water rafting with the camera on my son's helmet. Got great footage of the action in the raft since it was close in filming.

Check out this for quality! This is a video I took with my Drift HD. They are the best of the best in these little cameras. I just snapped this pic with my phone while watching the playback on my TV....As you can see the colors are amazing. If you actually actually pulled the still picture from the video, the quality is even way better.
You can mount the Drift on any angle...which ever way you want..the lens actually rotates to compensate for whatever way you have it mounted...
