I ordered new inserts for my 08 X2 tower, old ones faded. The new ones I got today were a little different, textured and a glossy black. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this difference and now they looked installed?

I'm waiting to order a set. Just waiting to hear back if they can match the colour I want (mellow yellow). Can you explain what you mean by different texture? Do you have a picture of them? Thanks

I lost one of the port side upper, outside ones. Will you have one to get rid of?

Sorry no picture, I left them at the dealership. But the texture is a little bumpy (tough to explain). Almost like a very tiny checker plate.

From what I here it's hard to remove the inserts without destroying them, but if I can get them out out clean it's all yours.

Sorry guys. You cant remove the inserts without destroying them. I drilled an 1/8 inch hole and used a 90 degree dental pick along with a heat gun to slowly pull the insert off of the double sided tape buttons. Good luck!

Were your replacements textured? Or smooth?

You can remove themnwithout bending them. The problem is you havevto put a small hole in each one to pry the adhesive off. I've put two sets onto my tower and haven't come up with a way to get them off without the hole.

The original inserts that were sold were flat, but they weren't powder coated. The new ones are textured and are powder coated.

Sorry, our boat is in storage, and it's quite a ways away from us. Otherwise I'd have pics up already. None of the ones I have now showed the texture.

I like 'em

They are awesome. They don't oxidize like the OEM inserts did on our boat.

I like the textured look of the new inserts. Like you Millertime, mine faded in the sun. Kinda surprising they fade that quick after only a couple years. HAs anyone installed or have pictures of the yellow tower inserts?

Here's an idea for you guys...instead of paying the crazy price for the inserts, I just went down to the local sign shop, got some of their outdoor vinyl, and put it on over the stock inserts. I cut off the excess with a razor and this is what you get...notice I left the inboard sides black and the outsides red. Looks good up close too. Hope this helps!

Yes, I did. I used a single edge razor and a heat gun to get the vinyl to lay flat. It didn't take very long at all, and it came out really nice. It's been on there for about a year now and has held up great. :toast:
