Are there any good slalom training DVDs out there? I have a buddy that bought one(not sure which one) and he said it was most certainly for advanced level skiers to benefit from. are there any for intermediate level skiers?

I thought it would be a good way to try to improve a bit. I am planning to go to a ski school next year, but I would mind a DVD to try to improve a bit this year.

any ideas??

Too funny, I logged on to start the same thread.
I have been looking for one for about a week. None on E-Bay. Andy Mapple (sp) has one out that runs $40.00 and is on Amazon. Other then that, nothing!!

I ran a thread on this awhile back. I bought the Drew Ross video (the new school) not too sure it was all that helpful. I found ski school to be much more informative. The DR video is rather hokey.

I have to agree....... good for insomina.

Do a search on this site but the consensus is that the videos available are for people who already ski shortline and it's hard for us 15-28off skiers to convert that into something we can use.
drew ross video is called shortline.
shortlinevideo.com I think is the url
Mapples video is something I had to have and it's awesome seeing the master at work but it will not help you much ump.
I bought an amateur dvd of a Lucky Lowe slalom school done by Greg Kuenning in Ohio. I will have to look up his contact but he was on the nicholls site alot
the dvd was rough but I tell you I learned more from it than I did drew or andy. You can see the skiers progress as they listen to Lucky's grouchy style of coaching(it works)
there is some parrish on that dvd as well

I think you get the best training by attending a ski school.

Many years ago (too many to count), I went to Dave Spencer's ski school in NY state. I got more out of that than any video tape. (there were no DVD's back then) :D

For videos, go with the secret spot. It won't teach you a thing, but you'll enjoy watching it. Ski school is the best bang for your buck.

east tx,

how come your not out today? rain?

We were out yesterday, enjoying the water without all the sunday boat traffic. I try to avoid sundays whenever I can. (wally count is too high on sundays)

Wife could go into labor at any minute. If the kid hasn't gotten here by Tuesday, we'll be inducing. Plus, my boat is in my father-in-law's garage (had to bring my uncle's boat back to get it repaired). I assume I'll get my boat back when they come to see the baby.

August may be a lean ski month for us.

Just august??? With a new baby?

Don't worry, the little sprout will be sitting on your lap while you drive the boat in no time. :D

Best on luck to you and the misses ;)

New poster here, but I do have Gordon Rathbun's "12 slalom drills" which is pretty good. It's a video tape from a while ago, but well done I think. He talks about the things to work on leading up to running the course, but they are good for reviewing still now that I'm running the course. It also has footage of Jason Paredes, Terry Winter, and Chris Parrish & Jeff Rodgers tie in the dark at some event - a classic.
Good luck,
Kevin

Mark got permission from Greg to copy the dvd, so I will send both of them to Mark for copying and then he can pay it forward.
(since I will bash another computer to bits if I try to copy another dvd!)

Thanks. Yeah, wishful thinking perhaps, but we've got the kid's grandparents with the lakehouse and the lift who are dying to babysit.

Welcome, Kevin.

Our library had a couple of water ski videos and one instructional on the course. Was old, running the course with Dick Pope woodies, those white bindings, and a 76 or so ski boat, SN I think? It was very good in the basics.

edit; Oops, these were VHS!

I believe this is Gordon Rathburns 12 Slalom Drills, I would be very disapponted if I shelled out the money and this was all that the DVD has to offer.

Yep, that's the one. I got mine as a gift (VHS tape), no idea what it cost. Now that I'm running the course, I find it is good to review it once in a while to tune up the basics. What makes it worthwhile (at least to me) is the footage at the end of Paredes, Winter, Parrish & Rodgers. Not sure what it costs now, but I would guess there's better ones out there.
