this i overheard at the dealer yestreday and i was curious if anyone knows anyhting about it. on the 88 prostar 190 , was there a recall on the powerslot tranny where some boats were switched back to a 1:1 and a 13x13 prop before they hit the showroom floor but yet the capacity plate still stated it was a powerslot. i also heard this decreases the value and has made it hard to resell with wrong info stated on the capacity plate.

That's interesting Rod. I have an 87 and my plate says powerslot. However, I have a 13x13 prop and 1:1 velvet drive transmission. I've never heard that before.

i think the guy's crazy and they made one plate for either model.

That definitely sounds like a more plausible explanation.

I just hope they didn't give him pink seats:) Seriously though, what prop do you have on the 88' ... 3 or 4 blade? If they switched the tranny they would have switched to a 3 blade, right ... I could be totally wrong, if so, sorry.

I think they were all running three blades then, just 14x18s on the pslot as opposed to 13x13 on the 1:1.
/waiting for BrianM or some other owner of the '88 to tell rod to break out the shampoo.

Just look at the bottom of the boat. The earlier years had the cut out in the hull for the larger prop. No way MC would have glassed up the hull pocket even if they pulled the trany and running gear.

ok, home now...my 88 1:1 velvet has the cutout in the bottom, and the capacity plate doesn't mention powerslot anywhere. Not sure if this clears things, or muddys them up....

Here's a fairly good discussion on the Powerslot's origin and function.

Can I see a picture of what we're calling the p-slot cutout in the hull?

I have 87 that is a powerslot with the 14x18 and it is a 3 blade prop. I have the 'slot' in the hull but the same cutout is in the hull of my brother's 89 non-powerslot (i.e. 1:1)... so the 'powerslot' does not have anything to do with the hull itself in the late 80's. It might have earlier (like 84-86).
In general I get the sense that people think the powerslot is a better configuration but I can't tell the difference in pull between mine and my brother's boat. If I were buying another late-80's boat I would NOT let the powerslot (or lack of powerslot) influence my decision given my experience with the two.

digi is not at home right now..from what has been descibed here....it is the "cup" cutout above the prop to allow for a bigger prop...not sure if this it right, leaning on others knowledge (as usual on here). You guys are all great!

Oh, well mine has a little cutout with a hook on the rear of the hull. I thought they all had this. Or maybe that's the point (that after a certain year, all hulls had the cutout)?

what you described is exactly like mine; I looked at a 93 25th powerslot before I got mine, and the slots look the same ...cutout with a little hook....

So when did they stop doing different hulls, is that 86?

from what I have read/remember, 86 was the hull change, then in 87 the tops changed (like mine and brieod's)

In late 80's there was no recall on the powerslot. So don't begin to think that you can bring in your 88 for a modification unless you are a LAWYER.
Many boats had the same capacity plate. Easier to install one on all the boats vs' 2 seperate ones. The early advent of the POWERSLOT Transmission not the HULL started in early 80's No recall was done. No one removed a slot for a 1:1. Different set up. Slot prop was a 14 x 18 with a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 shaft. 1:1 standard was a 1 in shaft w/ a 13 x 13 prop. New holes, packing glands and struts would have been needed to do the modfication. At times the hull was called a SLOT because of the dish by the rudder that actually holds the boat to the water. In 87 that dish was closed as evident in BRIEDOD's 87. The hull was not different if you had a POWERSLOT transmission.
