Came across this motor box air scoop.

Somebody has to get this. Done correctly this could really look great even on the older boats. Would be a good solution for a high rise intake.

I would think that it would interfere with the tow rope on most DDs.......

There was a Cleveland TT member that was at the Buckeye Bash this year with a Black 197 with a scoop on his engine cover. You can just see it in these pictures.

Not sure of who it was but someone might... Sweet boat!!

There were a few with the scoop. Most of the ones I saw or heard of had a supercharger.

I have always thought that it's kind of funny that nobody has designed some sort of "cold air intake" system for ski boats, they are so popular for cars.

That's awesome....creative "forced induction".

That third pic looks like it's even a GT-40 intake from the old 5.0L Mustangs.....I think I saw a similar engine in the "Engine Compartment" thread....which means....come on Eastie, try it.

Somebody has to show this guy up hook up a 13hp Little Wonder blower...

First step with this project will require large...very large amounts of alcohol...the design will all make more sense after that.

When someone asks how much boost he runs, he can say "I run a 13 little wonder blower."

Eastie come on try it out for us just for grins.

You're the one busy adding horsepower. I'm busy leaving well enough alone. :)

Horsepower has been completed for a while now. I'm busy leaving the boat alone and fooling with Kegerators remember.

If you add a leaf blower to yours I'll do mine. :D

Yeah, that's code for you don't have any water to put the boat in either.

Speaking of blowers, if you can rig up a computer fan to put in that kegerator to get the cold air circulating, you will be happy you did so.

I'm reminded of a coworker who had a ram air scoop on an old car. It was non functioning. I guess if you need the height clearance for a big intake, this is one way to do it. But, IMO, it looks better without it and if it's not actually forcing more air into the engine, well, ....

We still have plenty of water. Lake is 8" low.

I think that scoop would look awesome on my boat, especially when the 408 I want to build in place of the 351 is under it.

I can see that the scoop might be needed if you install a taller motor in the boat, but I agree that little to no air would be "forced" into the engine since it's sitting behind the windshield. As others have stated, I'm pretty sure you would have a lot more engine noise inside the boat as well. I would just raise the box.

The scoop will add 50hp hands down. The leaf blower will add another 25hp.

Someone has got to add a scoop. Maybe not the leaf blowers but someone has got to get a scoop and install it in a mc.

You guys are rediculous. All of you are looking this from a closed bow perspective. While this would do nothing for ps190 or s&s the pure wind force from an open bow boat with the windshield open would be incredible. I am personally thinking a 30-40hp gain. Also the extra noise is a bass substitute.

IMHO you get another 10hp gain from putting a k&n sticker on the side of it.

In all seriousness it does look bad *** though

It would be even cooler if you put headers on it like the jet boats. Just turn them to the side to keep from flooding the boat. Be careful when stepping over them because they might get a little hot. Definately need the K&N sticker for a few more HP. Maybe a CraneCams sticker for more torque?

ahhudgins
11-06-2011, 09:38 AM
The stickers won't add any HP unless you put them on the windshield.

I know a guy who had a Ski Nautique and after he bought a boom he put a HUGE multi-color sticker across his windshield. "Barefoot Nautique".

Guys guy guys.....really stickers adding horsepower? Cmon we all know that if you really want to add insta horspower you need a tornado.

Toss in some fender vents on the bow and your talking at least 500hp.

Lol I'm not allowed to talk about the vents. I got my hand slapped a while back talking about the vents that add 100hp.

Do you think you think you could plug the leaf blower into the auxilary plug in on the dash like where you would plug in your phone charger?

That would be cool.
