I have a 1985 s&s. Blue and white. White decals. The decals need to be redone all That is on the boat is the mastercraft. One winter project is to redo the decals. Was thinking of going with black decals just to change it up a bit. Just so it dosent look like ever other s&s out there. My question is what do all of you think. I'm not sure what to do. Or has anybody seen this or done this.

I say stay with white decals. I assume the decals are going to be on the blue stripe. That is the way it was on my 82 red stars and stripes and my 93 blue stars and stripes shown in pic below. I also like to keep it original.

If your colors are what I think they are, don't go with black stars, it would look awful. White would be best. If you want a little pizzazz you could go with silver. Something that would be different would be white carbon fiber. From a distance it wouldn't be noticeable, but close-up it would have a little bling.

My thoughts against black are the black would be visible up close and stationary, but from any distance or in motion, there wouldn't be enough contrast. You could do a mock up with come black paper and tape to get an idea of how it would look.

Stick with the white decals. Classic and clean, IMO.

I did a few little changes to my S&S, wanted to keep it somewhat original but not have it look like every other S&S on the lake. I did Silver flake lettering, stars & outline stripes. I thought it would help accent the Silver piping & trim on my interior.
My method was to take a pic of my boat & mess around with color combo's on photoshop. I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out. It's not "original" but very easy to change back to. Sharp looking boat you have. Good luck with your project.

You aren't going to tell us all that without posting a picture, are you?

You could outline each white star with black pinstriping. It would be a lot of work but it would set off the stars.

Silver metallic, metal flake or maybe chrome may look good.

I think I would go silver metal flake.

Yep, Decal it is! The guy who did my lettering (in Silver flake) and stars, did an amazing job. This is the 3rd season for them and they look as good as the day I had them done. Out on the water and in the sun, it really pop's.

If your boat is a 1985, the decals should be beige. They didnít use white gelcoat in 1984-85.

So I tried calling the guy who did my lettering & stars. No answer. Since his shop is not far from my house I thought I would stop by and talk to him. His wife said that he is no longer doing graphics. The econemy took it's toll on his small buisness. He sold all of his equiptment and done with the buisness. That's sad because he did some amazing work. Sorry about the news on that. Name or contact?

I agree, keep the stars the same color as the hull. Best look for a classic boat IMO.
