Greetings, I recently purchased quick disconnect brackets for my 1983 Mastercraft and I am having trouble getting the old brackets off. One bolt came out without a problem. The next came out halfway and then just turned and I was not able to get it to go back, others just turned. I thought it was a tapped plate for backing, but their must be nuts inside??? Any ideas on accessing this. I tried to shift my fuel tank over a bit, but it still looks like fiberglass covers where I need to see. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

In 83, originally the platform brackets were lag bolted through the transom. They were prone to stripping out due to age and "elvis syndrome" (progressivley larger occupants diving from the platform). If the bolts do not have threads like lag bolts, then they have been replaced with nuts/bolts/washers. You will need to remove the fuel tank to see behind for access. If they have been replaced, there should be some sort of access hole made to install the nuts/washers. This is where you will be able to get a wrench on the retainer nuts.

My 83 platform ( fiberglass) was lagged, as was my 82. My 85 has bolts holding the brackets on. at least the top ones. The bottom ones are beneath the floor with no easy access. You will have to remove the tank.

If you have gas cans, you can siphon the gas into the cans

Just out of curiosity, when did you get your boat and what color is it? I sold my 83 two years ago and the guy re-sold it. What part of Minnesota are you in?

I was lucky enough to have intact lag bolts, but will probably be switching to through-bolts this offseason.

I keep expecting to have to take on this project, but the lag bolts on my '77 are all still amazingly solid.

Only one person at a time allowed on my platform.
