Well, I finally got the wife to agree to allow me to upgrade to a tandem axle trailer. Those of you who know me on here know that I have a distaste for single axle trailers. Additionally, we travel a fair amount to a 'getaway' lake that is about 180 miles from here and I never like the way a single axle trailer towed, so I was really pushing to upgrade.
I did a fair amount of research and worked a lot with Todd at Texas MC over trailer choices. In the end, I ordered a Boatmate trailer from TXMC. The order time was about 3 weeks and it arrived earlier (!) than promised and it is awesome! This trailer loads our boat really well and pulls great.
A big thanks to Mark @ Boatmate trailers and Todd at TXMC. Both guys were a lot help. I did not go for the pimped out option of lots of chrome and oversized wheels, but I think it looks great.

(How many times have you waxed it already?)

First off, beautiful trailer! Love it!
I've had the same concern as you with a single axle and in fact, it DID happen to me. A wheel flew off during a trip. Here is a little reading on the story if you want to share with your wife that you had a valid concern....especially with long trips.

And the fender repair thread as a result....

I'm always looking for a dual axle as well and if it works just right, I might jump on it. Just hard to keep looking after I powdercoated my single axle trailer already. :o

Yeah, we had the same issue around this time last year. On a weekend trip to the lake and one of the tires delaminates while we were going down the highway. Fortunately, it did not explode, but we still had to change it on the side of the highway as the sun was setting, not an ideal situation. That was a big motivator to change.

To me that looks much better than the over blinged low profile trailers.

That is a great looking trailer. I hope you appreciate your dual axle trailer as much as I enjoy mine.

Yeah, that chrome MC shield was my addition. I got them from my dealer, but they may be the same as the MasterCraft by design ones. I think that they come in the new boat owner's kit.

Wheels are a $1000 upgrade, it just was not worth it to me.

Yeah,it has one. I don't like the way it looks, so it is off more than on right now.

They are 14's, same as the MC trailers.

Okay, now that we are all drooling over that sweet trailer, you gotta pop our bubble - what does a rig like that run - just ball park dont need all the nitty gritty.
I see the value in a good trailer. I almost exclusively trailer - and small trips are 30 miles each way, medium trips are 150 miles, and big trips are 400 miles...
I almost lost a thumb because of a crappy old trailer on my first boat because of a crappy old coupler... Man what's a thumb worth?!
What I love most are those badges!
Good job!

That trailer looks NICE!
I love that new (old) logo, too. I was in a MC showroom awhile back and saw it on the interior of an X25, looks very cool. Love it on the trailer.

I agree as well. I bought my boat "off the lot". It had a low profile trailer under it. I had the dealer swap trailers with another boat and I pocketed ( not for long :) ) the difference. I figured I'd just be paying more-n-more every time I replaced those low profile tires.
Your new trailer looks very sharp and you can tell you take good care of you boat - they match nicely.
Now all you need is one of these and if you have to change a tire you will not have to jack up the trailer.

Just as an FYI, as low profile tires are becoming more and more the norm, the price of them is substancially cheaper than what they used to be. Take a minute to look into it, and you'll see what I mean.

No, I don't need to yet. I did price them out prior to getting the LP trailer though, and the prices were more than reasonable.

That is good to know, mine seem to be wearing fine.

Here is how the low profile tire option was described to me: "the Pro is that they look good, the Cons are every thing you can think of". That being said, I don't think a light weight boat such as a 197 going to put a lot of stress on any tire, LP or not.

We don't trailer a lot, so hopefully they last us for a few more years.

I think that MC should make tandem trailers standard on all the boats.

Would make sense, then those buyers who wanted a single axle could opt out of the tandem.

Very well stated, sir. There are a lot of wrong places to buy tires.
