Not sure where else to get info on this.
I've recently progressed my water skiing to double boot and looking for a good ski. I currently do not own a ski pr boat and have just been borrowing friends skis.
My skiing is currently just free skiing, looking maybe to run a course soon.
I've been sniffing around for my first double boot ski, and found good deals on the HO NOS, HO Triumph etc. I skied a Connelly Eclipse with RTP binding and it was a load of fun, and easy to get up on. I also used a HO Burner, and it was also a great ski. Got up easy with it, and elt like a ski with alot more potential in it then the eclipse.
Any recommendations on possible close out skis etc? I'm not looking for a big investment here as I don't have the boat yet, and would rather get comfortable on my ski over borrowing.
Thanks

ski-it-again.com for good used skis. Are you planning on doing any skiing in a slalom course or are you strictly open water skiing?

Im currently only open skiing, but wish to give the course a go and see how it goes.

HO Triumph, Radar Theory are a bit wider skis but you can get into the course with eaither. Radar Senate, and HO Nitro are slightly narrower and higher performance skis, but also appropriate for what you want. 66in would be just right for you with 67in will also work.

Where would the HO NOS fit in comparison? Would it be a good choice?

Find a used Radar Senate or O'brien Sixam. Great easy riding skis. You don't need a wide ski at your size, just one that is forgiving and easy to ride. Narrower skis slice through the wake better too.

FWIW...i am an open water skier and skied a Ho Burner for 5+ years. This summer went to the Radar Theory. Stable, forgiving, and quicker. Really like the ski and the Vector Bindings.

It would fit fine, particularly if you can get a good deal on it. The HO NOS is the updated version of the older HO NITRO. Both are / were good skis.
In learning to ski the course, most will recommend the wider skis to begin with, so it is easier to ski at the longest rope length & slower speeds.
IMHO, any of todays wider skis will work great for you.

I tried an older Triumph this past weekend. At 30-32 mph I felt like I was all on my front foot, could not weight the back foot at all. I was being pulled forward and could not turn the ski, and was consistently face planting or high siding the ski. Slowed the boat down to 28-30 mph and I could then weight the back foot. But I felt the speed was too slow, and was getting slack in the rope and the wake at that speed as quite large.
I didn;t really like the older Triumph. I think the connelly concept may be a good ski for me, considering what reviews have suggested as a wide boat speed and comfort range, that it may fit my profile. Thoughts?

Concept is a good all around intermediate ski that should suit you well for some time to come. Try to keep your stance centered over your 2 feet and your shoulders open in the pre-turn, and then let the ski bring you back to the rope to make your turn to prevent slack. Watch closeouts at Overtons and similar sites for factory blemishes (blems) as they will ski perfectly and give you great bang for your buck. Used demos can also be a good situation.

I wonder where the boots were mounted? Sounds like they were too far forward.

Found out the Connelly Eclypse I was skiing is a year 2000. Looks like it only ran a few years then was disco'd, and only the combos are called eclypse now. What replaced that original eclypse? Would it be a good choice. That skis is a riot, but will I outgrow it quickly?

X2 on the Connelly Concept. I'm on my third season and still like the ski. My daughter has the Connelly V which looks really nice and is supposed to be for transition skiers. Hers is too small for me but I'd love to try one in my size. the deals should be coming on all these skis. Ski it again is a great place to find deals but you may also try your local dealer to see what they're moving to make way for the newer skis.

I've narrowed it down to 2 choices.
1. 2007 HO Triumph with Venom boot and ARTP $200
2. 2011 Radar Theory double vector boots $420
on the triumph, I'd want to add a double boot at some point
on the radar, I'd likely get a ARTP in addition to use until comfortable with the double boots
Guess the challenge is the theory with the better boot options worth the extra $$ seeing as its a rec ski for me.
Thoughts?

If you don't mind sharing where you are getting your price for the Radar with double boot. I would like to know, I might need one too.

Me too

I got my Theory from www.perfski.com for $400 including shipping. They had 67" which seemed to be pretty impossible to source, but the price was ok too. Mine is Vector boot with ARTP.

I pulled the trigger on the Theory with double vectors. Mine was the blank one on ebay earlier this week. Added double vectors.
Not going to post the name as I don't know what Radar's internet policy is regarding online sales. It was a closeout, last one, so irrelevant anyway.
Looking forward to using the ski in the spring!
