I've had the tranny leak fixed 20 hours ago. I'm not seeing any fluid in the bilge, however, the dipstick showed 1/2 full. The dealer says that's possible based on a burp bubble. I topped off the fluid, but now after running for a little while, there's a strange ringing noise when I put her in gear. For you SNL fans, it sounds like Ed Grimley striked his triangle.
In neutral it's fine, move throttle forward and theres a faint ring, not a grinding...any ideas? Is my transmission going?

Sounds like something needs tightened up or metal on metal some ware. But I’m not a Tranny man:confused:

The faint ring is something we noticed on my father in law's boat after it received a new shaft and alignment. He took it back in and the mechanic took him along on the lake test. He was told that some boats do this and others not so much. It's disconcerting to say the least. Since then (a year later), it has come and gone, but the boat has run dead solid perfect.
You might try changing the tranny fluid a couple of times and make sure you have the precise amount recommended.

That's good to hear East. Sure enough part of the tranny leak fix included having to detach, re-attach, and align the shaft. You have put my mind at ease.

Just to clarify....are you hearing the ringing noise when it is in the water or on the trailer? If you are putting it in gear when on the trailer, because there is no water to lubricate the shaft seal, you will likely hear a high pitched squeel. This practice is not recommended due to it's damaging effects on the shaft seal. If it is happening in the lake, your seals may need to be worn in or perhaps there are adjustments that need tobe made as mentioned above.

For clarification, the noise on the 98 PS 205 has been an in-water phenominon.
