View Full Version : Help! x-9 windshield issues-worry or not?

Help! Last year I purchased a new 2003 x-9. After using it for about 10 hours I noticed the walkthru windshield was widening up top. Basically, a gap was forming up top and not below. It spread apart enough to where the top latch doesn't even work. The bottom is fine.
After persistant questioning to PineCrest Marine in Warsaw, IN they brought it to their approved shop to fix it. They removed the windshield, covered up the holes, redrilled new ones and put the windshield back. After one day on the water it now spread apart even worse. Now, I am getting lip service from PineCrest Marine and they haven't done anything. They said they have passed on my info to Mastercraft along with my pic.
I am in the works of getting in touch with those supposedly involved with my boat at Mastercraft. Is this a structural issue and has anyone had or heard of this? Thanks for any help you can provide.

i have heard of this happening on older open bows but not mastercraft. after many years the hull will start to open outwards and the center window starts to have a gap. on my brendella open bow i could tell that the center window was about 1/2 larger opening after 9 years. on a 2003 thats weird.

My new 04'-2 is doing the same thing, very unusual. Mine has about 100hrs. on it so far, and I just noticed it. Keep me posted on this one.

I had an '01 X-9 and now have an '04 X-9. Around 250 hours when I sold the '01 and now have 130 hours on the '04. Never experience the gap on either boat.

I have no issues like this on my 04. There are quite a few X-9 / 209 owners on the board and this is the first time I have heard of this. So I would say, "No" it is not a structural issue.
I pay attention to this, because my 90 Maristars windshield would move together slightly when it was on the lift. There was enough movement that I noticed........
Your situation is no fun....but the marina and MC should make it right.

My 2003 X7 is also doing this. About 1/4" gap at bottom, and 1" at top. Not sure what causes it, but if I had to guess it has something to do with the stress the tower causes. Each time the tower tow point is pulled, the tower will want to expand (widen). Probably one of the reasons they switched to towers with a HUGE piece of billet aluminum as a mount instead of a tiny little bolt at each point.
I have been asking myself if I should take it in. But I know how some shops deal with Gelcoat repairs, and it isn't pretty. Keep me posted if you find they do anything for you. I also know of one other X7 with the exact same problem. You are not alone.

The windshield is installed at the dealership if I understand correctly. If it wasn't installed correclty, sounds like the dealer's doing.
For what it's worth, my 93 205 has a small bit of sag/gap in it. Not enough to make me want to fool with it yet.

I think I have about 120 hrs on it now, and it certainly was not like this before. Its been getting worse.
Maybe I should wait until its a few more years old and then post my complaint here to see if they will replace everything for free. :)

I just bought a 2002 MC 205V with 68 hrs. I have noticed the same issue with mine. Twice the middle window has tucked under the drivers side at the top. I had to pry apart with screwdriver. I plan to take into the dealer at end of season to look at making an adjustment. It appears to be pulling apart at the top.
I have a 2003 209 with a tower. It gets trailered a lot. The top of the walkthough window spread about 1/4" the first year and has not moved since.
Sounds like somebody needs to try one more time with yours, good luck.

Different/older windshield style, but I was told recently (and it sounds like a scary process) to loosen all the screws between frame and glass and pull the windshield together having someone hold it as your retighten. Haven't attempted it yet with mine.

It's actually not too bad, Doug. I've removed the windshield by the spotter's seat, near the glovebox, and it was pretty painless.
Now redrilling new holes is another story. I think I'd be measureing the width of the boat to see if the hull is somehow widening.

If I don't lose the glass "YIKES" I may attempt the repair in the fall. Hope it doesn't cut into my snowmobile season!!
Otherwise, I will be fine the way it is if the glass stays put. Won't know until it happens. I wasn't going to bring it up, I was just reassuring you it did not only happen to one person's boat.

I'm only 99% sure of this but I took a factory tour in Feb. and I believe the windshields are mounted at the factory.

The new boats I have seen delivered have the windshields on them before the "wrapping" comes comes off, so I assume factory install.

My windshield also spreads apart on my 2002 210. Is worse the rougher the water. My dealer had me call the factory about it, and I was told there is no fix for the problem. They recommend just grabbing each side where it curves around to the side and giving it a good tug towards the middle of the boat. Works every time, and needs to be done about every 2nd or 3rd time on the water, depending on how rough the water has been. Don't think the towers have anything to do with it, as mine spread before the zeroflex was installed on the boat.
