Volunteered for "Operation Float a Soldier" last Saturday-this group takes Iraq and Afghanistan vets from Brooke Army Medical Center (Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio)to Canyon Lake for a day of swimming, kayaking,PWC and boat rides, tubing, skiing and wake boarding. We had a couple of i/o's,couple of pontoon boats and my ps197. A red x-star stopped by later. There were approx. 80 vets and family members in attendance. My son (OIF vet and emt) did all the driving, I had beach duty. This was the last event for year; if interested in helping:http://www.floatasoldier.org/
btw we did have great bbq for lunch

That's awesome! Too bad there isn't another one scheduled this year as I'd definitely help out...easy decision since I'm in New Braunfels and an OIF vet. I emailed them about 2012 events and look forward to helping getting some of these deserving people a good time on the water.

do you have any links to any groups in other parts of the country doing the same kind of thing? i'm in western MA and would be more than happy to donate my time and boat for something like that.

I just emailed them too. I am in Houston, but would travel for that cause. Was in the Army for 10 years. God bless them!

This organization's Pittsburgh chapter puts on a disabled sports water ski clinic at our lake every summer. They do a great job and I'm sure you can find the information you need at this site:

It would be great if we get a few more volunteers next year as events are scheduled every other weekend and I don't think I can make all of them. Thanks for the response. I found quite a few sites with disabled ski equipment, the "sit skis" are pretty pricey, my wife nixed any more ski equipment anyway.

I would b honored to bring the boat out for events in the san Antonio area. Perhaps wounded warrior has access to equipment they could bring out for the event. I know I have seen events they put on with this equipment, they have a big operation in san Antonio maybe we could reach out to them to see if they could help. I could help help with some other stuff, food etc...
