Where should the paddle wheel be located on my '02 X30? It is currently located just to the left (port) of the center drain plug. When all 3 ballast tanks are loaded and I have a rider in tow, my speed control hunts between 16 and 20 mph when set at 18 mph. I am thinking that the paddle wheel would be better located in the rear of the boat to make sure it is always in the water. Where do they locate the paddle wheel in the new X30s?

Not sure on the X30's mate but when I installed my paddle wheel in my 190 I placed it at the rear opposite the raw water intake as advised by several people on wakeworld.

That way its always in contact with the water. Speed fluctuates +/- 1mph max.

While I wouldn't argue the paddle wheel placment idea with you what are your NN and KDW settings? Also what engine does the boat have? I believe that this can be cured by changing some settings...let me know and I'll try to assist.

I notice mine doing this also at the beginning, set at 20, and will search between 21.5 and 18.5 couple of times and then settle down, will note NN and KDN settings.

Same for me, I try to help it when it reaches the set speed by pulling back on the throttle. My NN is at 70 but I think I may benifit from going a little lower, I'm still dialing it in.

My paddle wheel is in the same location and if I get some good chop the boat will take off to 27-28. Just got to watch it.

just use the rpm mode.

Excuse my ignorance on the particulars of Perfect Pass, but what NN and KDW settings are you guys talking about? All I do is turn the PP on and set the speed to 18 mph. I think I need a course on how to operate this system.

BTW - I am running version 6.0 and have the L18 motor.

KDW is how aggressive the engine corrects the speed, NN is how many samples the system takes before making an adjustment. I have a different engine than you, but if you are overshooting and falling back significantly, I would start by lowering the NN, and leave the KDW at the factory setting as the L-18 is a pretty powerful engine and shouldnt neet the extra agression unless the boat is heavily weighted.

With the system OFF (i think), press the up and down arrows at the same time. the first number is KDW, leave it, press menu once, Adjust the NN value down (a little at a time), press Menu again, and make sure it reads the correct engine (mine says LT1/MCX, not sure what yours will say). If all else fails, call PP.

Also go to mymastercraft.com, they have the PP manual in PDF on the website.

Pages 5 and 6 of the Wakeboard Pro 6.5N manual. (http://www.perfectpass.com/download/WakeboardProManual_Jan2005.pdf) . May not be available to your software version. You can upgrade to 6.5N for $65. (http://www.perfectpass.com/upgradeoptions.html)

KdW is adjustments to control response. NN is paddlewheel sampling response.

NN is the number of samples (paddle wheel rotations) that the computer looks at before making a change. The larger the number the greater the amount of data and the more time elapsed before a change is made. We (at MCOC) set the NN at 60 before delivery of a wake boat. This is 40 less than "OEM settings".

KDW is how aggressive the computer is with the throttle...the higher the number the more aggressive the computer will be about maintaining the requested speed.

FYI: In 2004 Maeghan's X-Star had 2000lbs added to the factory ballast. The boat was equipped with the L-18. NN = 55 KDW=170

Also, 2005 and newer DBW numbers do not correlate to previous models due to changes in the numerical valuations applied in the program. Hence a 170 KDW in 2004 is not the same as 170 in 2005.

Does anyone have a operators manual for version 6.0? I pulled the operators manual for version 6.5 from the PP website but could not find where they talked about NN and KDW. I think for $65, I will just go ahead and upgrade to version 6.5. Is this a good move?

This is my first boat with PP so I am still learning - alot. I can't wait to get this boat dialed it. It has been a long time coming.

The pull is better with 6.5...but most don't notice the difference. Try the new settings and see what you think.

OK - just got off the boat and I forgot the manual that tells me how to get to the KDW and NN settings so I had to wait until I got the boat back to my house - out of the water. I did check, my KDW setting is 96 and the NN setting is 150. I set the KDW to 100 and changed the NN setting to 60 - per MYMC suggestion. I have not had a chance to try these new settings in the water. Does anyone know and have a feeling whether changing the NN setting from 150 to 60 is going to stop the "hunting" for speed issue?

Worked this weekend on a 245SS, which uses the "old" servo system. Final numbers were NN = 50 and KDW = 180.
