I am looking at a 74 stars and stripes with a froze 289. I have a 351 out of a junked boat w less than 100 hrs. It's seems to me it will bolt right up to the velvet drive 1:1 trans. Any compatibility issues?

Thanks for the quick reply! Cleveland or windsor, either one works? I'm not sure what my friend has.

The 351 Windsor block would fit. So would a 302.

351 Cleveland engines were larger than a small block, but not as large as a big block. I'm not sure if there were any marinized versions, but you would be much happier with the 351W.

Welcome to Team Talk. How about some pics of this 74? Really love the early boats.

Exact same bellhousing pattern. All the accessories should also bolt up. The engine mounts should also bolt right up. If the 351 has a distributor you need to use it. The 289 dist would be different. The firing order is also different.

Fantastic. How about some details/pictures. Where in the Midwest are you? I'm in St. Paul.

"Froze", as in "it froze during winter" or froze and won't crank? If it's the first and it's a slight crack on the outsidee, it may still be OK but if it's the second, make sure the starter works, pull the plugs and crank it- it may have water in the cylinders
