I have a 1988 prostar/velvet drive Just developed the problem. It appears to be slipping when I make a hard turn, otherwise it is ok. I checked the fluid and the level seemed fine. It did however look sort of foamy. What do you think?

How long has it been since you changed the fluid? If more then a year I would just change it out now. I had some slipping in my 92 and changed the fluid and the slipping stopped. Moreover, I put off the rebuild for close to 5 years and even then it was not slipping but I need a winter project. ;)

"Foamy", usually means water is in there. Change the fluid (this might take several changes)...and see if it returns.

If it keeps returning, you have a leak.

Also, add some more fluid, just a bit over the full mark.
