The official Dual battery thread was very helpfull. However, I have a Question. I have a cranking battery in my PS190 now. Can I add a deep cycle battery as a second battery and hook the two in parallel? Or do I have to get two deep cycle batteries? Do the two batteries have to be the same brand? Does it matter?
Thanks

As long as they are isolated in some way you can use whatever. If the second battery is going to be used for the stereo and will be drained regularly the deep cycle is the better choice.

The batteries only need to be match paired if they are going to be used in a permanent parallel configuration (ie no isolator). Even then there are many conflicting opinions on the longevity of parallel wired matched batteries.

If they are isolated from one another, then it doesn't matter.
If you tie them together, yes it does.

Thanks,
I will be adding a Blue Top Optima and a Borg Warner Relay to to my cranking battery. The optima will be used mainly to run the stereo with two amplifiers.
