I have a quick question on the fuel pump for an EFI Vortec 5.7 298 HP. Is it possible to clean the screen for the inlet of this fuel pump. Discount inboard marine said the screen was not accessible on this type of fuel pump. Is this correct?

Thanks!

I have no experience with this fuel pump, however, many of us on this board trust the knowledge and advise of DIM.

Well, if it's anything like mine, the fuel pump is outside the tank. I believe that there's a screen on the pickup inside the tank, but I wouldn't guarantee it. I'm pretty sure that there's no screen on the pump itself (it's just too small).

Replace it.

If your pump looks like this one....... there is a screen in the inlet and it can be cleaned.

Which line is the inlet? On mine, there is also a 1/4" rigid u-shaped line that goes from the Indmar casting mount to a 1/4" threaded ftg on the pump. I was thinking you could remove the allen screws on the bracket to have the pump loose, but you would need to remove the u-shaped line previously noted. It would seem that the gas tank would also need to be drained correct?
