View Full Version : 1980 Stars and Stripes

I am looking for some help with selling my 1980 Stars and Stripes. We are upgrading to a 97 Prostar 190 and I want to sell my pride and joy. I love this boat and will keep it before I sell it to someone who can't appreciate it for it's vintage, therefore listing it in the locals or on Craigslist isn't an option for me. "I think" the boat is in great shape but realize it's value is limited and believe only a real Mastercraft "family member" is worthy of owning this type of boat. This boat, as all early model MC owners know, litterly has my blood, sweat and tears on it over the last 13 years. You can find a posting several pages back on the Prostar Marketplace page that I posted a year ago for $5500.00. I will try to re-post some pictures here in a few days, but if I can get $3500.00ish I will let her go. I didn't intend to make the General Discussion forum as a place to sell boats but I am hoping to catch someone who knows someone who is looking for this vintage of boat to continue lots of TLC.

It is a 1980 even though the MasterCraft decal on the side is newer.

That is a seriously clean boat. The only drawback would be the hours. Have you done a compression check lately? Still seems like it could be a great deal for the money.

AGREED! In fact, I'd find a church group and donate it before you lower the price any more! S&S Forever!

PS - I've got family in the area I'll spread the word.

Thanks, it is very clean though pictures never really show the minor stuff. Carpet is clean, but is warn to the point where I would replace in the next few years if I was going to keep it. The floor is solid no soft spots, the upholstery is in great shape (no tears or rips), I did a compression check 13yrs ago when I bought it with 1200hrs, can't remember what it was, just remember it was good. Engine is GREAT, starts everytime runs strong, new rotor, cap and wires last year (only because I wanted too). My kids wakeboard all day, I slalom and barefoot, runs like a champ we put about 30hrs/yr on it. Ten years ago I put in a new rudder port with grease zirk and steering cable. Twelve years ago I worked for an autobody shop, there I had a good friend (painter) remove any gouges or scratches from the sides of the hull with duraglass and then refinish. Sides look so good because of this, has 5 coats of clear for durability. The finish is bullet proof, no blistering, fade or peel. All new stars, stripes and decals at the same time. It is just one of those boats that begs for an owner who is going to keep it dry in the garage when it's not in use and be willing to keep giving TCL. Pass on the word, I really want this boat to find a home with another MC lover.

Oh ya, several years ago I pulled all the instruments and replaced the woodgrain on the dash. Last season the starter went bad so I had it rebuild new including new battery. This year I had the windshield sanded and polished to remove hazing and scratches, now it is crystal clear to look through. I have a new impeller kit and new carb kit sitting (had the carb rebuild about 8yrs ago) on the shelf for the day when it is needed. I have a brand new Flyhigh extended pylon (2 piece stainless) and Barefoot International boom I might be willing to include. The trailer is original, it works great for us, newer tires and bearings. We trailer to the lake here at home and to Northern Wisconsin (270mi, about 4 times a season) so the boat is always garage kept.

************************SOLD********************** ******

A great new owner bought the boat, new to owning a MC but not new to boats. The cool thing is, it's near the birth place Vonore, TN.

Many more years of skiing, :)

Thank you
