Mine's still at my father-in-law's (had to town my uncle's back here for repairs). I've been out of town so much I'm just laying low this afternoon. Maybe my last weekend to do so for a while. Time to get reacquainted with an old friend called television.

Very well for being 9 mos. pregnant in a Texas summer. I can't imagine that she will make it to her due date. But she continues to amaze me. I wake up at 7:30 this morning and she's dressed and telling me she's going to run to the office to organize a few last details. I think she'll be doing work from home starting next week. I hope so.

It's not so much "work." They're remodeling the office while she's on maternity leave and she's trying to figure out what goes where so she can find it later. But as for how she's thinking, I don't know a man alive that can explain the thought processes of a woman who is 9 mos. pregnant. She's handling it all like a champ, that's for sure.

Has she started the nesting stage yet? They get pretty nuts then

When she sleeps, she sort of makes a nest/racecar out of pillows. Does that count b/c that's been going on for months now.

Whatever stage there is, we don't have much longer to get into it.

Yesterday went great!
Skied our a**'s off!
An old friend was on the lake and rented a jetski.
He approached our boat a bit too fast and I think he forgot that they don't have reverse. CLOSE CALL!
He almost hit us, missed by inches.
We not only have many jetski's to deal with but to top it off, they rent them on the lake! :(
Oh well, another beautiful day, headin' back out there.

JEEZ, they are annoying. Our lake is only patrolled sporadically, and the jet skiers know to behave themselves when they see the Sheriff's water patrol truck and trailer parked at the ramp. I've taken to carrying a few water balloons in the boat to make a point to the idiots that like to follow behind jumping my boat wake.

we're still at the stage where we're taking a lot of pictures of the kids being pulled behind the boat....
we're going to start taking pictures of all the hot-dogging jet skis that coming within 200 feet of us.... with registration numbers visible.

Oklahoma State Law says idle speed within 150 feet.

correction:
Operate a boat or PWC at speeds greater than 10 miles per hour on public waters within 50 feet of another boat or PWC.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till you see her in the delivery room. I just stood back and kept asking in amazement, "How did you know what to do?" Then watch was she nurses/feeds the baby or just as she takes care of it. Even though most have never done these things before there's a God-given instinct there that tells them how to do it. It's a beautiful thing to behold.

Then when the little snot becomes a teenager and starts smart-mouthing his mother, you can quickly remind him of the pain she experienced bringing him into this world, and the countless nights of sleep she missed while bringing him up. (I only have about 10 years to go before this happens, so I'm starting to prepare myself.)

I got 3 good hours in on Saturday. The one ski tricks off the ramp are getting so close. I did get smoked pretty bad on one. Slipped at the top of the ramp and flat spinned into the water on top of my rope. Great pinnner! Slammed my right forearm and knee into the ski. The shoulder, arm, and leg are sore today. I feel like going to the "it's monday and i need a drink page."

there only a small window this plan will work in....

Put in my new starter and spark plugs in the MC this morning. The bay looked choppy so headed for the beach. The surf was ripping -- overhead + (thank you Katrina!). See, sometimes we do get surf on the South Coast.

If you look closely you can see the guy on the wave in the background -- the wave's taller than him (overhead+).

Hmmm...in guys your age, problems with the rotator cuff are about 98% of the things that go wrong with the shoulder. Question is complete tear, partial tear, "sprain", or impingement/inflammation from chronic spurring.

If it doesn't respond to physical therapy and anti-inflammatory meds (ibuprofen etc), and if magnet therapy doesn't cure it ( :D ), then it might be time for an MRI to assess the damage.

Mac,
I appreciate your input.
I did this to the same shoulder about 3 seasons ago and it took a very long time to heal.
It was a direct shot at the bump after 2 ball. I hit so hard that it knocked the wind out of me.
I was thinking that I need to spend some time in my weight room and do some stretching.
It's been just over 4 weeks since I did it but I kept skiing anyway afterwards which didn't help...

OK, I can do lat pulldowns with full weight but curls hurt, flies, forget about it, and it's tough to swing a golf club.
Damn, I was feeling good this season too...
I'm going to guess sprain...

I think Doug mentioned that he's constrained by his employment contract.

I have no problem offering what I know, but bear in mind that most of you guys are crazy-hard on your bodies and musculoskeletal injuries aren't my particular area. A lot of what I know is from my younger days when I was crazy-hard on my body. One of the guys I ski with is an orthopedic surgeon, though, and I did stay at Holiday Inn Express last night...

IMHO, a 35 year-old going for the 4-ball at 28-off is an ER visit waiting to happen :D

Mostly, rotator cuff "sprains" are partial tears. The healing that takes place is by scar tissue replacing some of the muscle and that scar tissue isn't as flexible. Over time, spurring develops on the bone and that spurring causes further degeneration of the muscles of the cuff. Years of that will lead to a complete tear, and you become one of the 60-70 year-olds I see on my orthopedic partners' OR schedule every week.

Best way to avoid is a good weight-training program designed to build up the muscle that's left. It's the main reason I suggest physical therapy - minimizing the acute injury, preventing acute re-injury (more water skiing isn't part of that program) and a good preventive excercise program to minimize chance of re-injury.

You know, at 42 almost 43 I feel pretty damn healthy but I think since I have never had a full physical I think it's time to get to the shoulder checked and get that physical. Insurance will cover it.
This was just a couple of weeks ago skiing through the pain.
You can tell that I was favoring that right shoulder...

Tore a shoulder up snow skiing 5 years ago and did't get it fixed, just worked it back in the gym etc. (level 3 seperation, they named it)
Every now and then I aggrivate it and then it hurts like hell to raise my arm straight out to my side as if I were doing dumbell flys for the delts or something. But if I treat it with some ibuprofen for a couple of days and then start to work it back at the gym, i'm fine again.

Hey Mark, we have a guy on our lake that has the same Supra. Now I know why you call it Mt. Supra. HUGE wake! The guy on our lake that has the same model we call his the battleship because when you put it next to ours and other ski team members boats it looks like a battle ship and ours are toy boats. Lots of room and nice tall freeboards but man does it have a nasty wake!

Well.......... we were suppose to be at Cumberland today with Mag but our 2 dogs decided to eat 16 oz. of D-Con so after a spendy trip to the emergency vet clinic and doctors orders that they need watched today no trip for us. :vomit:

My daughter and some friends are up from the Twin Cities for the weekend - it's her 21st birthday. I have kite tubing requests from them, so I'll be pulling that (house rule - I'm the only one that pulls the kite tube). Weather is beautiful, so if I can wrestle the MasterCraft away from them, some buddies and I will be out for some pulls. If I'm unsuccessful at scoring the MC, we'll take Leo's X-10, but my boat tends to be preferred for the group because it's bigger. He and I hope to get down to a lake about 5 miles south of here this morning and look at a 92 ProStar he wants to buy.

Current project amongst our little group is everyone learning to wakeboard - one of my buddies found a board at the bottom of the ski locker in his Four Winns. It's pretty amusing, since none of us has a clue how to ride the thing or how to pull it. Trial and error has taught me that full throttle starts don't work. It's a work in progress
